I'd really like a Seiken Densetsu 3/Trials of Mana crossover.
Chrono Trigger - yes. Chrono Cross - no. That game is a mess.

My grand dream is to have Chrono Trigger be the basis for a raid series, actually.
Chrono Trigger is unarguably one of the most well-regarded JRPGs of all time. I've always described it as "if there was ever only one JRPG should play, it should be Chrono Trigger". It is by no means my favourite (would probably give that to FFIV), but it's probably a game that shows up on a lot of top tens, if not top fives. Its development alone was like fan fiction written by a JRPG fan in the 90s. Like, back then it was completely insane to imagine the best minds of the two greatest JRPG studios of all time coming together, with the artist of one of the most influential manga of all time at the pen (though Toriyama is not a stranger to Dragon Quest). It was somehow the best of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, yet felt like it had its own flavour. A tweak to the battle system that was revolutionary.
It is certainly a better fit for a crossover raid series than, say, NieR, as it still feels like it has enough of that Final Fantasy DNA to fit in. Which is not a slight on NieR, though more a statement that it wouldn't feel out of place. It's something that can easily be adapted to some kind of side story where's it's easy to take inspiration from it and craft some kind of isolated story with its elements, given some original twists to adapt it to FFXIV. Like, how cool would it be to have the final battle be against Lavos with time in flux, changing the features of the battlefield and encounter mechanics.
It's also a treasure trove of potential glam and fun items:
- Weapons glams for all, like the Slasher II for SAM, Doom Scythe for WAR or DRK, Masamune for PLD or DRK, Crisis Arm for MNK, Wondershot for MCH, and more
- Flea costume that can be worn by all genders
- Cave people duds from 65,000,000 BC or Zeal attire from 12,000 BC
- Nu minion
- Mounts like the Epoch, Jetbike, or something based on Robo similar to Construct VII
- Iconic tracks like Corridors of Time as orchestrion rolls
Just a lot of fun possibilities. Would love to see this happen with a future expansion.
We will never get any events from niche games.
All jrpgs were niche before FF VII and the series is also dead, so there is 0 chance of it happening unless a miracle happens and square decides to make AAA chrono game.
Yes, RPGs are a niche genre, but we are talking about crossovers...in an RPG, so at that point the parameters change a bit. To the average videogame player, CT is probably pretty niche. To an RPG player, not so much.
Yes, a CT crossover is very unlikely, but it's not the craziest thing to happen. 2 years ago, I would have said a CT crossover was more likely than a Nier Automata crossover as a full raid series, yet here we are.
We don't live in a distant past anymore, lots of normies play this game and they need crossovers they can relate to and nier is much more popular than chrono has ever been and it has been in many news articles from haters and lovers alike.Yes, RPGs are a niche genre, but we are talking about crossovers...in an RPG, so at that point the parameters change a bit.
