Hit 80 - how do I gear up?

What should I be spending tokens on, and where? I just don't want to accidentally buy dated gear. I have no plans to raid, so the stuff I purchase from the shops is, for better or worse, my endgame.

    Thanks.

I'm still very new to this game but after reaching 80 I know that you can get for free from Grenoldt the job set which is 430 ilvl but in order to get it you need to finish at least one of the Role quests.

after that since I had a lot of money I bought from market place all the Neo Ishgardian set and now I'm currently full ilvl 480.

Well I suppose that depends on what you have unlocked. If you're done with story, then your tome gear is in Eulmore.

You can do the questline for Copied Factory which is a 24 man raid that drops level 460 gear (with the added effect of being highly fashionable) and the 8 man Eden raids will drop tokens for 450-480 gear but you have to unlock the previous tier to get to the 480 stuff.

Generally the crafted gear is good if you're not too keen on doing slightly more advanced stuff with the added bonus of being able to eventually augment it to the current base level tome gear. In the interrim, you can use dungeon gear which is 455 I believe.

Since it sounds like you're brand-new to being level 80 you probably won't have many Allegory tomestones yet, but focus on getting those and spending them on the i490 tomestone Crystarium gear set in Eulmore. (Yes, it's a bit weird they sell Crystarium armor in Eulmore. I got it over it.) This will be the highest gear available to you without doing any raids. There is a weekly limit on it, so focus on getting the cheaper items first to squeeze more items out of it per week. It's usually possible to get 2 or 3 items each week for the first three weeks or so. You won't be able to get the weapon from this set without raiding, so don't bother with it.

If you've reached the point that you can do the new 5.2 relic quest, it is super easy, quick and best of all dirt-cheap. For 1000 Poetics tomestones you can get an i485 Resistance weapon with 5 materia slots. If you do nothing else, do this and do it first assuming you've progressed in the story far enough to unlock it. It's the best gear slot, the highest ilevel weapon you can currently obtain without raiding, and it's essentially a free relatively high ilevel item. If you don't have this unlocked yet, then just get the highest level crafted weapon you can afford. All of the other weapons require tokens of some kind from raiding. Last resort if you can't afford a crafted weapon is to get the i430 AF weapon from Grenholt sound of Ondo Cups in The Tempest for a small amout of gil.

Before the Crystarium gear you can buy crafted i480 Neo-Ishgardian gear from the marketboard, craft them yourself, or have players craft them for you.

If you can't afford that or don't know anyone will help you out with free crafted gear, then you can spend Phantasmagoria tomestones in Eulmore to get i460 Deepshadow gear. You can upgrade these to i470 Augmented Deepshadow gear fairly easily, albeit with a weekly limit on drops, by running The Copied Factory.

Don't bother with any lower level gear unless you've run out of tomestones and/or gil completely. In this case, your last resorts are i460 YoRHa Type-51 gear drops from The Copied Factory, i455 Warg dungeon gear from Anamnesis Anyder, crafted i450 Facet gear, i445 Warg dungeon gear from The Grand Cosmos or again the absolute last, last resort i430 AF gear set obtained for a tiny amount of gil from Grenholt in The Tempest.

You can see a full overview of the level 80 gear below for reference. Just ignore everything in the weapon section if you can get a resistance weapon right away.

    Mhaeric post sums it all.

To add my contribution, this is the NPC location in case you have a hard time finding them.

1 - To trade tokens for upgraded tomestone gear (i470/i500).
2 - To buy tomestone armor and accessories (i460/i490).
3 - To buy tomestone weapon and Trade tokens from Copied Factory or EX trials.
4 - To trade Eden raid tokens for armors (i450/i480) and token needed for tomestone weapon.

Slight correction here. The weekly limit has been lifted now. So the OP can run as many times they want for tokens.

Don't spend Copied Factory coins on upgrades to i470 at this point. It's already outdated and you'll need them for each of the following upgrade tokens too.

I mean, honestly, if they're not buying the crafted gear (which is dirt cheap on the marketboard, with 5.3 coming soon-- and new craft gear most likely too), I'd say that's still okay till they can get ahold of Eden Verse 480 gear (and their tomes). It's better than the 430 stuff they give you in the beginning, and trying to gear up with rhonkan gear at least. They can hit 80, do their dailies, and get quite a bit of tomes for the 460-470 (upgrade) gear, buy craftable gear, or do eden and access to the Nier Raid series 1. Most of their dailies are under level 80 with their current gear grind once they reach cap. And since most of those are 1-50/60/70 (excluding expert), with the occasional level 71-79 dungeons in leveling roulette, that should be more than enough to get them on the right track into eden verse and nier raids at minimum

Yes, but unaugmented i460 Deepshadow gear is entirely fine as a stepping stone to i480/90. No need to run Copied Factory multiple times over to earn coins when you're replacing it ASAP. Especially when you're going to need as many coins again for each of the next two tiers. They're much better saved at this point.

Small correction. The odd patches dont raise the item levels available, so they dont include new crafted combat gear. The odd patches are catch up patches where the people who dont raid savage can get their gear upgraded to almost the same level. They will probly add an option in Eulmore to upgrade the existing i480 crafted gear to 490(wont be overmeldable, but higher stat caps). The next Yorha raid will drop i490 gear(same as allegory tomes but with different sub-stats), and running the new raid will get you the upgrade coin that(when combined with the CF coins we have now) will allow upgrading 490 crystarium gear into the 500 equivalent. The next relic step will probly stop at i495 for the weapon. If the extreme trial drops a weapon, itll likely be in this same range.

I imagine somewhere between 5.3-5.4 we'll see the upgrade with the last tomes to allow upgrades to 490 with the crafted gear, and it'll be back up in price a short while again while that's happening. On goblin, the average price is about 50-75k a piece, but almost always goes up to the 150-300k range when the upgrade currency comes out for the last series crafted gear
