What to do with weapons ?

Everyone else has pretty much covered it, but one extra useful (or useless) thing you should do before you toss an old weapon is to check the Spiritbond % you have with it. If you have 100% Spiritbond you can Extract a piece of Materia from that item to attach to another piece of equipment. As you're levelling it's likely the extracted materia will be useless before you do get to extract it but even if you just sell it on the Marketboard or just vendor it, it's a few extra gil in your pocket for basically no effort.

Indeed. A problem with this though, is that even for someone like me who progresses at the flow rate of molasses; getting weapons to 100% before it is time to upgrade is a feat rarely met. Gear gets to 100% much faster as most people are leveling multiple jobs within a given role and the gear is shared among them. If this wasn't commonly the case, I definitely would have mentioned it in my previous post.

Lower level Materia can be useful when advanced melding. It can also sometimes get a very good price on the MB because people need a bunch for the Zodiac weapons.
