Crashes to desktop without error messages or event viewer logs?

Hello!

I've been playing for rhoughly two months so far, and every so often i get a crash to my desktop, its almost like pressing alt + f4, it just closes down with zero indication as of why, with zero error message or any error log in event viewer. Some days i can play all day without receiving these, sometimes i can get one every hour.

It gets quite frustrating when you queue for something for over 30 minutes just to crash 5 minutes into the dungeon or the raid.

I've checked for driver updates and everything is up to par, i've reinstalled the game with a fresh install without any changes to the crashes.

This started happening fiarly frequently to people sometime in the last 2 patches, or at least that's when I noticed people started posting about it. I've had it happen exactly once myself, so I can't provide any reason or details. I was even at the keyboard. One second FFXIV was there and the next second it wasn't. Nothing else on my computer behaved oddly, and I just rebooted FFXIV and it worked fine ever since. Others like yourself appear to have it happen multiple times.

Edit: I just went through my FC's discord chat log and found when it happened since I chatted about it to them. It happened on March 4, 2020. It happened while I was waiting for a DF queue and had the glamour chest open. The queue popped and I pressed ESC to get out of the glamour system and the moment the glamour menu closed the game just shut down with no error message or even a Windows error. I thought at the time the interaction between the glamour dresser and the queue caused it. I'm thinking now what might have happened is I hit Alt-Esc which normally forces the focus of whatever window has focus to the back. FFXIV might not like that sometimes and just shut down instead. This may or may not be what's happening to you? I'm not able to replicate it FWIW.

I was standing around at ishgard yesterday just talking to another player without being in a queue or doing anything other then typing to him, and mid sentence it shut down completely.
Later on the same evening i was inside an alliance raid just before pulling a boss, and same thing there it just crashed as the timer was counting down, wasnt doing anything or pressing any keys.

So it just seems random? Sometimes im not doing anything, somtimes in a raid, or in a dungeon

To prevent repeating previously attempted troubleshooting, what have you tried to alleviate the problem? Does this crash happen when Final Fantasy XIV is the only program running? Where in game does the crash occur? Also, could you provide a system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

Good morning Rhaervis

I've tried running a clean reboot, i've been running ffxiv without any other programs.
So far i've had the crash happen at ishgard, in the arbonne monastary, new gridania, ul'dah adventurers guild, the navel, etc etc can't remember them all in my hand, but its sporatic and not really got any red wire throughout it all. I even read some other threads here on the forums and started running it in dx9 and still getting them...

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

Have any changes happened to the device before the issue began? We would also like to recommend several other troubleshooting steps:

1) Make sure that your hardware is not overheating and remove any overclocks you may have on your graphics card or processor. Please check that any fans or vents are clear of blocks.
2) Disable any additional programs that could cause interference with the game itself including chat programs. Also, remove any custom configurations made using graphics driver-level programs.
3) Turn off Fullscreen Optimizations. Find the executable file for the game (normally found in the install folder), right-click it and select 'Properties'. Under the 'Compatibility' tab, check the box labeled 'Disable Fullscreen Optimizations', then click 'Apply'.
4) Remove any unnecessary USB or audio devices (controllers, headphones, flash drives etc.)
5) Update and reinstall the drivers for your graphics card
