Pretty much. I have the same feeling. Even considering the 2013 release, it means it is technically based on what was possible back in 2010 since such game needs at least three years of development.
We don't even need to compare with the Unreal Engine 5 demo on PS5, Black Desert is enough to realize how dated the game starts to be. Even thought I like this game, it can't be helped, the game is technically old and can't hide it is somehow a "patch on a patch".

Not we can't have fun with old games (Disgaea 1 remaster looks pretty fun -dood-) but... Final Fantasy doesn't have this touch of crazyness; it is far too serious to get ride on the technical limits it shows more and more.

the game does need an overhaul technically. Things like the glamour dresser are data intensive when really they shouldn't be. But that's what happens with 10 year old spaghetti code that was rushed out

In terms of hybrid races, yes please but this goes behind a general character creator update that's overdue. First male buns/female hrothgar and make them appropriate (ie male buns are slightly smaller than their females, but look just as fair and dignified, female hrothgar are similar bestial)
Then a general character update (highlander brows, Au ra actually draconic and decoupled horns, sun cats claws...)

after that can be hybrids

Interesting to note though, in ff14 hybrids take more after their mother's race by far. Hilda and Arenvald. There was also an Auri female in sui no sato that fell in love with a hyuran man, the child had less scales than normal

I believe in a past interview, Yoshida mentioned that there will never be an overhaul and that it’s not worth it. The game has already been overhauled once and is doing well.

In addition, there’s nothing to suggest male viera are shorter, and I don’t see them changing au ra or any existing race. It’s super lame because they don’t look like their own art, but they already said they’re not fixing elezen proportions because they don’t want to upset players playing them so I doubt they would make a radical change to au ra. Especially after spending the time they have in and out of game to establish that they’re their own thing not related to dragons.

Taking after the mother is more technical limitations than lore. They’re not going to completely design a whole new body for 1 character that is not super important. The Garleans themselves are a mix of elezen bodies with unique heads or hyur bodies with unique heads, depending on the character. Otherwise I would like to think that the game writers are smarter than “hybrids take after the mother” because that makes no biological sense.

Adding (non/low intelligent) races that are not part of the Final Fantasy lore is out of the question.
