All resolution options enforce 4K mode

A friend made the discovery last night by having me select the highest resolution possible that I'm able to play this game in 4K. Which is great, except I don't want to and my PC is running hot. I have a really good monitor that I got for doing digital art, not gaming. I'd prefer to play in lower resolutions so my pc doesn't overheat.

The original default resolution claimed it was something like 1280 x 720 (custom). Except when I select that option again, it clearly wasn't and the UI is overlapping itself. I'm trying to play in windowed mode however windowed mode won't allow me to apply any resolution other than 4K. I can only play the game in full screen mode now from the drop down list of select resolutions, most of which still seem to run my PC hotter than what it used to.

How can I go back to default settings when default settings button doesn't work? It had something weird and custom which is 100% not whatever is in the drop down list.

Could you try deleting the locally saved content (My Documents > My Games > Final Fantasy XIV)?

Before you do the above thing, I might back up that settings directory, either by copying it locally or uploading it to the FFXIV servers from the character select screen. Because if you just delete it with no backup, you'll delete all your hotbars, gearsets, and HUD customization.

And then you will have a Sadness.
