Seriously disappointed with crafters in Shadowbringers!

I used a month or so bringing all DoL's and DoH's up from 1 to 80, with maxed gear, and I'm disappointed. What the crafters can make isn't good enough, compared to what is actually buyable with tokens from NPC's. What finally tipped the scale for me was when I found that my goldsmith can't make a single lure for Norvrandt, not a single itsy bitsy one! Have the developers made crafters, and thus gatherers, irrelevant? Have they finally started the road that so many other MMO's went, where in the end, the end-game was all about raids and dungeons, and the rest was just sitting around waiting, for the next raid or dungeon? I had big hopes when I started playing this game a month and a half ago, but the higher I got in level, the more irrelevant the crafters seemed to get. In my humble opinion the best of the very best should only be available through crafting. That way you give a huge incentive for the players to do something else than sitting around waiting for the guild to do the next raid.

    Sigh. Let the bashing begin.

Crafted gear has never been the best nor should it. Otherwise, what's the point of Savage if you could simply craft and/or buy your BiS? That renders virtually every other piece of content that rewards gear obsolete.

With all that said, Crafted gear does serve as prog gear for those raids. Since tome, normal and savage all have weekly limits, crafted gear was the only way to reach i480 when 5.2 released. And it will be the best gear when 5.4 arrives. That's when it tends to sell at the highest prices.

Also, though crafted gear is usually not the very best gear available (with exceptions - there have been periods when pentamelded crafted gear have been BiS), the best crafted gear is good enough to get you through all the available content.
That said, the very best gear shouldn't be crafted gear. That would just remove any need to run all those raids in the first place.

As for not being able to craft any fishing lures for Norvrandt, I'd attribute that to the overall lack of relevance for fishing in general. As time has passed, fewer and fewer of the fish one can catch are actually useful for anything. Even fishes whose description state they are a staple food for certain population usually can't be used for crafting.

The mats to make the best gear could drop from savage so you still have to run it for gear or making gil.

Could also put untradeable augmentation items in there to enhance the crafted gear so you still definitely need both crafting and raiding to be BiS.

That's the thing I've been hoping for, a symbiosis between what's gathered and what's looted and where you need a crafter to make it come together. That way the crafters and gatherers are still useful, and the game keeps the percentage player that otherwise would have left them as satisfied, paying customers.

If you made gathering the material very difficult, some parts from loot and some from gathering, and the crafting equally difficult, it would be far from easy to get those materials. Fantasy girl, get your fantasy running.

You lack fantasy girl, seriously. Why can't you have loot that is needed for crafting the BiS? Add some hard to gather stuff and DoW, DoM, DoL and DoH all get their fair share of the game-play, and rewards.

As for fishiong, DoM and DoW still buy food, for buffs, and some of those needs fish. The thing is that every thing you really need, whatever you do in this game, is only available through scrips, tomestones, marks or whatever.

They tried out making the mats required to craft the current gear difficult to acquire back in Heavensward. It literally killed off the entire crafting population and took years and a total backpedaling by SE of the requirements to recover. In some ways it's never recovered, like the total mess that is still the specialist system.

And if you locked crafters' ingredients behind savage, most crafters would riot at that as well. Crafters don't want to hardcore raid in order to craft, nor do hardcore raiders want to spend huge amounts of time and effort crafting in order to raid. Two different crowds that only allow for a very small, mostly superfluous overlap before people start getting very angry.

And if this stuff was sellable on the mb, the prices would be off the charts, like seriously 100million or more per piece. The heavensward pieces that were atrocious to make sold (or tried to sell) for 10-20mil and didn't even need savage mats.
