Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
Have any changes happened to the device before the issue began? We would also like to recommend several other troubleshooting steps:
1) Make sure that your hardware is not overheating and remove any overclocks you may have on your graphics card or processor. Please check that any fans or vents are clear of blocks.
2) Disable any additional programs that could cause interference with the game itself including chat programs. Also, remove any custom configurations made using graphics driver-level programs.
3) Turn off Fullscreen Optimizations. Find the executable file for the game (normally found in the install folder), right-click it and select 'Properties'. Under the 'Compatibility' tab, check the box labeled 'Disable Fullscreen Optimizations', then click 'Apply'.
4) Remove any unnecessary USB or audio devices (controllers, headphones, flash drives etc.)
DirectX9 is no longer supported for FINAL FANTASY XIV.
Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
Got the same problem with random crashes to desktop. Resubbed a month ago, first crash came when I entered crystalium in SB. From then, it was random crashes wherever. Tried suggested troubleshooting, nothing helped. This time got stuck doing pugilist lvl 20 quest, sparring with Hamon Holyfist duty in Ul'Dah. It crashed everytime I entered it, tried to do it like 4 times, and was getting really frustrated. As every1 stated here, switching to DX9 helped. I'll probably switch back to DX11, but doing group content is quite tricky if I get kicked out of game at random moments.

I have the same problem, game crashes without even giving an error.I formatted and reinstalled the game and it's still the same.My bios is up to date, i removed my overclocks nothing has changed.I guess i'll stop playing until they fix it.
