An MMO mouse is huge, both in player performance and (if it's a good fit) ergonomics. Get one with at least 12 buttons. I like that, from a WASD position, I never have to bind anything that requires reaching more than a third of my keyboard.

I’ve only ever played using keyboard and mouse, and even then it’s 90% keyboard.

The biggest thing to do is map your hot bar to both then top numbers and the numpad so either hand can hit skills. From there just make sure to use Ctl and alt to the best you can For hot bar 2 and 3. Also as btw, you can use both Ctrl and alt together for a fourth bar.

For me this set up let’s either hand move me (mouse or wads) and use my skills as needed..especially ogcd skills.

This was the game that finally had me cave and acquire a Razer Naga. The mouse keys are assigned as the second hotbar, the first hotbar is the default. The mouse is paired with an old Anansi keyboard, which has the macro keys assigned to the third hotbar.

I bundle combo keys together, have them divided into AoE and single target where appropriate, and other actions are assigned where it makes sense depending on job. The least accessed skills tend to be on the latter half of the first hotbar. I have small hands, and it's just physically easier to keep the most used stuff in a certain radius on the left side of the keyboard. Those least-used skills on the 8-12 area of the first hotbar I might click with the cursor, during combat, depending on what else is going on.

Cross-class skills and similar skills are placed on the same keys where possible (for example, Esuna is always 5 on the mouse buttons regardless of which healer it is). Organising this way is one of the ways I've improved at playing, making up for other short comings I might have.

Function keys are as default, and allow easy access to the party list when healing.

I move with either keyboard WASD or mouse buttons, depending on what's going on. For flight, for example, I hit the space bar to take off and then use the mouse to control the rest. Leaves a hand free for my ever-present cup of tea, arguably the most important part of the set-up.

I like to use this mouse: https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Scimi...s%2C203&sr=8-1

make like so much easier, but I'm not sure how well it would work on a mac.

I use this mouse, too. I also tried the Razer Trinity, but the Scimitar fit my hand better (personal preference). I believe it's compatible with Mac.

I have a four hotbar setup, and I try to be logically consistent across classes. Attacks mapped to the number row on the keyboard. Defensive cooldowns mapped to ctrl+number, for which I have programmed the mouse keypad. Other attacks and abilities to the function key row. The fourth bar is for things that I don't use often, like return, various potions, and mount summoning, and I just click on that directly. Most commonly used stuff to the left, less used to the right, and rotations grouped together.

I'm on a Mac mini 2014. Even in Bootcamp, it runs slow. And it's easier to keep monitoring other programs while using RAP (Microsoft Remote Desktop) to my gaming PC.

As for using a controller, it's like Street Fighter 2, you learn the combos and it becomes reflex. Guess it helps being here since 1.0 beta.

Would be great if people could share how they do it with their keyboard and mouse too.

Exactly how I play too lol.

I play using a gaming mouse and keyboard with a USB Num. keypad at the side that I use for my hotbars.

I've tried doing MMOs on KB+M but I just can't adjust. I have what I like to call gamer's fingers, where your fingers always default to some kind of curled position as if holding something, and even after breaks from XIV my muscle memory with controller can just do everything on the fly with minimal thought. Been playing video games for about 20 years with the various controllers. My brain is like a stubborn old man: Set in its ways. xD
