    Players using keyboard & mouse

To those who play well with this, my hat is off to you. I usually play with a controller and keyboard, but lately I've had to RAP into my gaming PC from my Mac. Learning how others play has been insightful. Flying around, what a pain. Adjusting for pitch is so difficult.

I use a gaming mouse cheap one g300s frequent used skill assigned to extra mouse buttons. Some buttons have multiple skills assigned if available and not in cool down.

i actually played FFXIV using my keyboard and mouse and just click on my hotbar with my mouse on every skills available except for skills assigned to 1 2 and 3 on my keyboard. Probably that's just me but hey it works so far.

Would be great if people could share how they do it with their keyboard and mouse too.

Meanwhile, I admire those who play with controller. Even better: switched from KB+M to controller. The rapid trigger switching you guys do always fascinates me.

As a former midcore raider in other games I've been a die-hard KB+M and keybind user for about 8 years now. I try to limit things clicked to rarely used non-critical things (eg. mounts I like but don't use all the time). To my undying shame I still haven't bound SCH/SMN pet commands (sic, guard, steady, arguably heel). My biggest gripe is 14's horrific targeting heuristic. Despite whatever settings I use there are situations where I just throw up my hands and attempt to click the right thing and pray.

Flight pitch... I just point at where I go and that's the way I'm going. Unless I'm playing a combat flight or mech sim waiting for pitch, roll, yaw, etc. is uninteresting.

I've played with both KB+M and controller. Over time I've shifted to enjoying using KB+M a lot more than controller. Although in fairness, having a Naga with 12 buttons on the side helps a lot for me, but you can build the muscle memory for just about any keybind set up with enough time as long as you keep it consistent across all of your jobs.

If you hold both mouse buttons at the same time you can move your character. When flying like that you use the mouse to adjust your pitch by moving it forwards or backwards.

Which software are you using? Something like Parsec or Rainway should still work with a controller so long as your Mac can pass the device. And I believe macOS supports most controllers out of the box unless it's really weird or like, a bad knockoff. May be an option if you like your current setup.

Yeah, mouse movement is pretty much all I use. Only time I use the keyboard for movement is when I'm strafing. Other than that, keyboard is reserved for binding skill buttons; my most often used buttons on the left side and the further right you go, the less I use them. A gaming mouse helps a lot, especially on the really button-heavy classes.

It's the only way I've ever known for this game. I tried controller once to help someone beat a dungeon but I kept on messing up. Didn't know what what on what. I knew how to switch to different sub button but I couldn't remember which action was on what sub layer. And I had difficulty targeting. I do like being able to click on my target instead of cycling through all possible targets. One thing I did notice is that with controllers, you can get through window pop-ups faster, (ie. Open the door?, use the card? Start the elevator?).
