I played in the US for a year before I played in Japan.I can mine as fast as possible and still not beat NA and JP players and the waiting between bites on fishing is just a joke in the EU.
SE should have made Ragnarok regional !!
For those that play from Japan:-
As I have said 100 times, you are confusing server latency with network latency, regardless of the amount of lag you get in Japan you can bet people in the US and EU are having the same lag + network latency to deal with.
I don't see what that has got to do with it .. (wants to rage)
If I'm standing next to another miner and we are hitting the sweat spot perfectly and hes in Japan, I can gaurentee you that he will finish up on the node long before I do.
This is an example of how accumulative the latency is.
I'll make it simple
a JP player has 18 ms latency so multiply that over 8 mining attempts = 144 ms
I'm in EU and my latency to SE server is roughly 300ms multiply that by 8 = 2400 ms.
Average for a US payer is something like 170 ms multiple that by 8 = 1360 ms
It means that a JP player has finished mining 2.2 seconds before me (although in my experience its actually much more than this), add this to what the OP is saying that ever battle action is taking longer due to accumulative latency and JP players do in fact have the advantage in dungeons..
Whether that matters is besides the point really the fact is that it makes a difference, and most certainly will when PvP is added.

SOMEONE IS DOING MORE THAN I AM AND IT'S NOT FAIR.

This thread was a good read...
but if it is any consolation, I live in Japan and the response time and lag is just as bad as when I played in the states before.
I still constantly get hit by sand traps even after I am well passed them. Still got hit by eruptions in the same sense.
Menus still take forever for whatever reason. Its no different here than anywhere else.
Ultimately, It comes down to server and client. animations on your screen don't match what is being registered on the server or whatever. Don't know the actual way to explain it.
oh and whoever is talking about finishing a node quicker than you...you simply cannot prove that.
put it this way...if you run in a circle really fast around another player, on their screen it will show up as you just kind of twitching. nobody sees the exact same thing. I've played games before while two boxing....jumping around on one account but on the other screen there is a noticeable delay.

so you are telling me the people that start a new crafting action before the last animation finishes aren't in japan?, maybe they are using packet injection?
Really noticed this issue just now. Another miner and myself (presumably JP) began a node at the exact same time and by the time he finished all 8 gathers I still had 3 more to go. He was gathering almost twice as fast as I was, pretty unfair.
Regardless, everyone acknowledges that there is a lag issue. Regardless of it being UI, server, or connection issues.. It's getting very tiresome to never be able to see uldah as a whole and everyone in it, and having to walk 10 feet and stop 20 secs to see the next 50 people in that area. And, Its got worse in LL / Grid since the merger.
Too add to that, it's so bad as when I try to turn left or right while running in towns, I will start circle'ing without being able to readjust because the lag freezes everything and I do about 2 circles before it'll correct and i can continue to run, just to do it again in 5 seconds when I'm trying to adjust from the first screen/action freeze.
Lag is starting to take its toll, and being told to wait till 2.0, 2 years after the game is released is kinda ridiculous.

Were you same level? Hitting in the same spots? There are many reasons for this other than lag. A 50 miner can get most items in one swing when aimed at the correct position for that particular item, which you would know by looking at your remainder bar. This would effectively halve his mining time.
