Back when Player Housing was released, there wasn't really -any- restrictions whatsoever. It was rather hard (for the average player, that is) to make enough gil at the time to get a plot, but those that did started to make a living out of it. There wasn't the hidden timer, so someone could buy a plot, then try to gouge the value of said plot to people who were late to the party. Bots were especially criminal during this time.

It wasn't very commonplace, but it was common enough for things to have to change rather quickly, hence the new hidden timer. A handful of players took advantage of the system and it became what it is today as a result of that. As it stands, with how the playerbase are acting to these new restrictions, it doesn't really scream "We're adults. You can trust us." to most people. Least of all to SE, who are the people we need to convince in order for things to change. Creating threads like this work in both directions. IT shows we want things to change, but a quick look into these threads immediately see that we don't have any general guidance or goal in mind, only that what we have now isn't good enough. Attacking each other for differing opinions and people trying to protect what fragile ego they have.

(There may be parts that aren't true, or not pinpoint enough, but the broad strokes are there. If I -am- wrong, do tell me and I will apologize!)
