    It has nothing to do with being "easy and fast." There is no difficulty involved in repairing gear and the seconds saved by scrolling through all the repair list will not add to more dungeon/quests/etc time. It is about the experience. Repairing your gear via the Mender should be as simple as talking to him, and have him repair all your gear at once. I would assume that the code has several lines, one for head/chest/arms, another for leg/feet, etc. when all can be simplified into a single line which reads "if player gear<100% then repair" and that's it.
