I'm ok with the maintenance times, usually because it makes me realize I need to finish doing real life things! (I often forget about that even though I press "Yes" on the "Don't forget your family and friends" hahaha)

I apologize on behalf of my fellow American citizens for the usual Euro-hate that goes on. Of course, Europe is the only reason we ever became a country (France to be specific) so I find it a bit...ironic. Oh well.I was happy with the time for the first time^^
Usually it's always like 8 or 9 pm in EU when the servers go down, but today it was 11-12 pm when people started to leave and go to bed anyway
Sure, it sucks for NA players, but people from EU had to bear with it one and a half WHOLE YEARS.
Everytime someone said "Well, that's not really fair, how about we rotate it?" NA players were like "Sucks for you, but I don't care; rotating, are you stupid? Why should they do that?"
But now maintenance is during NA primetime ONCE and suddenly many think rotation is the way to go and it's oh-so-mean there was maintenance during their usual online time.
Hypocrites..
As for Maint: I'm happy crap is getting fixed. I fail to see the complaints. There is life outside FFXIV you know >_>

I'm amused by this thread. It reminds me that not everyone has worked in or has an understanding of IT. Sometimes even the people that work in IT don't have an understanding.
The server infrastructure is global and unified. Therefore, you can't conceivably avoid affecting some users during "prime" play time.
Content in an MMO runs in a "live" state. You couldn't really do a rolling update (which is what a server cluster is good for) since you'll get some really odd behaviors with some people playing with patched content and others not. Imagine the conflicts that can happen! OMG! I'm fighting a monster that isn't on my teammate's screen because it was removed on the server he's logged in to!
Even if you do a rolling up and keep it suppressed, there still needs to be a scheduled down time to bring all of the changes online. If you go that approach, you need to take into account the amount of time it takes to reboot all the boxes, run through the startup routines, load all of the required elements, and then test to make sure everything is in sync. This isn't your home PC, you know. These are far more complicated!

And we're back up! Logged in now!
I'm not sure if I'm just not lucky but sooo many times I'm like zomg off work early lemme run home to play until 10pm : ) ... ( EST ) * friend text *" guess no xiv for you today emergency maintenance "

I would talk to the devs about rotating maintanance times, because they are always in EU primetime, sometimes right through it, you could do it so for example 2.21b is during NA primetime, 1.22 in EU primetime, 1.22a in JP primetime, 1.22b in NA primetime etc etc, and keep rotating them like that, the only time I have seen JP players get disrupted by major mantanance is the server merge.
I do know you don't intend to only affect EU players (and about 1hr of NA primetime) and the goal is to inconvinance as few customers as possible, but in a worldwide game it would be better for everyone to have rotate maintanance times, that way no one can say SE is being unfair to EU players.

Understood, but in all my time on this game since launch, i cannot remember any one time when the maintenance was during the night NA or Europe time. it's always during the night Japan time. >,> ...which makes sense since the game is being developed in Japan, but really, just once?
