If there will be some day another FF MMORPG, my guess would be, FF17 has a big chance to become that, FF16 is definetely becoming an offline game for the next console gen, together with the ongoing FF7 Remakes
Then I want this MMO to be a completely different world with different story and differen't loveable playable unique race, that isn't designed like FF14 to look like a huge Final Fantasy Medley of all Offline Titles tht goes even so far to link its world basically to that of an Offline title so much (FF12), that we could syy by now also we could call the game FF12 Online xD as well too.
With the next FF MMORPG I want to see a truly original world and story, that has nothing do to at all with any previous FF games.
That its not awesomed, because it bears the name Final Fantasy and uses all the connections from old games just to create nostalgia, but instead is awesome, because of it's own true uniqueness, compelling own unreliant story that isn't tainted and distorted by anything that comes from older FF games, like such garbage as like the Gunbreaker class, that exists only, because of the huge mass of fanbois n girlz out there fangasming over gunblades "rolleyes" >_>, as if this weapon would be the rocket science of all rocket sciencce of pure epicness in weapon inventions lol, that it is worth it just to make for it extra a 100% obsolete job... for something like this exist weapon SKINS.. not every stupid shit needs to be directly a new weapon category just to add it into a game. But thats now a different topic in the end.
I would absolutely party a FF17 MMORPG, that feels, looks and plays like, as if it would be a mixture out of FF15, Star Ocean Last Hope, FF14, GW2 , Infinite Undiscovery and the upcoming Granblue Fantasy Relink and Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris and all of this setted not into a typical FF style medieval fantasy world, but instead into a star ocean style fantasy world full of various different worlds as in planets that you explore and discover in a science fiction based high technoly high fantasy setting, stat still allows you to explore medieval worlds n have adventureds in them, but in form of a topdown view of an advanced civilization that is able to travel beween wold with help of advanced technology and not because they magic powers simply make it possible to tranfer themself between dimensions like some shards of worlds that were once just one world, like its in FF14 the case
I think a FF MmO that gives the player character a different angle of view, due to playing a character that is more advanced in culture, technology ect, than the ff typical medieval stereotype races we have here in FF14, would give the game in regard of storytelling a much greater scale of threat too.
I definitely wouldn't mind a FFXIV 2 (or 3 if you consider ARR to already be 2). It could introduce new story elements and characters without having to recreate new lore. It would also give them a chance to update graphics, engine, mechanics, etc.
As far as a new mmo game I'd LOVE to see a post tactics:WOTL MMO in ivalice. It's such an awesome and widely loved game and setting so I feel like it'd be well received. The story in game is relatively confined geographically so there'd be tons of room to expand and explore new ideas while building on an extremely popular lore. I'd also like it not to be apart of the "main series" like XI and XIV are as I feel many of those games have more room to explore and experiment like the Crystal Chronicles and various Tactics games among others.
I love FFXIV but my biggest disappointment story wise is that I feel they do the primals dirty so if we got a new mmo setting I hope they'd make the primals a different role. While it's very well implemented in the story and lore, I can't help but feel they got kind cheated since they're basically not true individual characters but just a collection of concepts and ideas made manifest. Also their "poison to the world" nature of existing has left the summoner job in a weird spot lorewise and thematically (I actually quit ARR back in the day because of how visually underwhelming summoner, my favorite FF job, was). So if we get another FF MMO I hope that at the very least the summons are true characters and not these pseudo-imaginary beings, and that "morality" of summoning them is purely based on the summoners intended use and perhaps the summoned characters own temperament instead of it automatically being a bad thing no matter what.
You can't judge mmos by the same standards as the rest of the industry. They are a long term commitment for both players and devs. and there isn't room for a lot of juggernauts in the industry. 8 years is a fairly young mmo. Many shutdown because they are not willing to play the long game, or operate on the lower end.
Yoshi P recently said he is intending to be working on FFXIV for a few more years.

If there was a sequel it'd probably be better off set in a different world. Considering how FFXIV 2.0 came into being, 3.0 is easy to imagine.

Dead implies forever, and forever is a very long time.
The primals are only lame here. In FFVI they were their own tribe as espers (probably their coolest incarnation ever); in most of the other games, they were - as you pointed out - summons. I think it any other universe they would be different (and probably better) than what we got here.I definitely wouldn't mind a FFXIV 2 (or 3 if you consider ARR to already be 2).
