I know I'm too stupid for this game, but...

My paladin is lvl 71 and my red mage is 70, I can't find any side quests left, and the main quest scenario is blocked until I reach 72. I've explored everywhere I can go, which isn't much since it seems most of the land is closed until you do the main quest scenario for the area, and get the side quests. So am I supposed to just grind and grind and grind? I play this game for the crafting and gathering, the rest is a pain a certain place as far as I'm concerned, but the developers force us to be fighters, so I try to follow their way of thinking. But when the only option left seems to be grinding I get pissed, I got enough of that back in the early days of WoW.

Try queuing for dungeons on roulette, you'll get a decent chunk of exp for it. And the higher the level difference, the greater amount of exp given. Don't forget your FATE challenges for your challenge log, as those also give decent exp.

as long as you funnel every quest into one class, you should be good for the MSQ. If not though, its like 1-2 runs of the 71 dungeon or do a few roulettes

Do your daily roulettes with duty finder. Those will net you levels the quickest, especially on tanks like paladin.

If worst comes to worse and you get stuck like this, you can just run a leveling roulette or whatever the highest level dungeon you have available to get yourself back up to the point where you can progress.

Yes. The current expansion expects you to go out of your way to progress it, not just steamroll through the exp gates like with past content.

FATEs are a decent source of exp at that stage, plus all your roulettes.

Do the MSQ Roulette and you'll probably get most of a level, if not an entire level, for minimal effort.

Have you ever tried a leveling roulette?

leveling roulette + Main story roulette (especially Praetorium) will give you about a level. you can also run the first Shadowbringer dungeon (level 71) with your Trust.

Main Scenario Roulette and Levelling Roulette alone will be enough to lvl up. Also, since you're 71, that means you can queue for Holminster Switch, which is the first levelling dungeon in Shadowbringers. You can always eat something for extra xp (+3%). I always have good amount of Lowland Grapes to eat at the begining of a dungeon
