What am I saving my gil for?

I am pretty bad about hoarding stuff in games and never using it. I am sure many others can relate.

I finally got over hoarding items because I just didn't have the space. I also consume food often instead of saving it for when I "need" it.

Anyways, I am still hoarding my gil. I sometimes see a neat minion or some barding, and then look it up on the market only to find it is several hundred thousand so I pass on it. I have this fear that I will need to buy expensive gear on down the line, or maybe some other expensive end-game items so I just keep saving.

It was easier to spend all my MGP because I could see all my choices, and save for a goal. But without knowing what's ahead in the game, I am afraid to spend a little gil here and there.

So, am I saving up for any expensive end-game gear, items, or other things or should I just use it on all my minion, mount, and glamour desires?

There’s nothing to save it for. Except for when a new patch comes out with new items. The problem is the new items eventually become free and cheap every patch so theres no need to hoard. The most expensive thing where the prices never change is housing.

It really depends on what you want to do once you are max level. There certainly is gear to buy to save time getting your character caught up to the current content, and it would cost roughly 1 mill to simply buy it, but it's isnt necessary if you dont mind grinding dungeons to gear for free. And, as you can imagine, making gil is much easier at higher levels. It's fine buy things for fun along the way!

you can always just craft your own gear too.
frankly if you level a crafter or gatherer you can even make the bardings yourself for 1/3rd of the price depending on the items needed
theres really nothing to spend gil on besides housing and glamour, and if you ever run out of gil its very easy to make lots of it back during patch days. you can make a lot of money just selling tome mats when they come out iif you dont want to craft raid gear on week 1

In terms of combat items, Endgame gear is based on tomes rather than gil, so you don't have to worry about locking yourself out of excellent gear once you reach 80. The only extremely expensive items I've seen are really rare crafting items and housing plots. You can craft a lot of your own gear too for a fraction of the cost, if you want to invest the time.

    Are you lazy? Gear
    Do you like glams? Glams
    Do you decorate? Furniture
Do you craft? Speed leveling/materials which loops back to laziness because sometimes gathering those 300 ores just isn't worth it in the long run it feels like

Crafting is the one I've found to be the most useful. Even if, like me, you don't mind getting all your own materials, if you haven't leveled a certain crafting job and need items they make, then you need to buy the items for recipes in that case... Or take the time to level that crafting job before you can progress with your current one. It can be a time and coin consuming rabbit hole.

That said, it can be avoided by leveling multiple crafting jobs at once and gathering for yourself. ...Then your biggest problem becomes, not Gil, but space.
