I have been playing when I decided to change my main from PLD to MNK back in Heavensward. I already had MNK at 50 before HW dropped and loved the job, and thought HW has to bring so much more to the class! Boy was I wrong. HW did add some nice skills and ideas to the job, but with poor execution.
-Form shift should have been what it is now
-Meditate should have been what it is now instead of spamming for chakra
-Tornado Kick was ok to use with Perfect Balance (after the cooldown reduction)
But all in all HW just added complexity and more tactics that confused new players to the job I feel.
Stormblood just made things worse for the monk sadly.
-Riddles just made the job a mess to play (until riddles were changed to a straight buff that dropped off without changing forms) Honestly this was the one thing that I hated most about monk in stormblood, riddles could not be stacked, and forced to change to that stance. I found myself a lot of times forgetting to change my stance back. What were they thinking with this?
-Brotherhood was lackluster unless you were in an 8 man, and added even more RNG to the class. At least I felt that way.
-Tackle Mastery....enough said there.
Shadowbringers still made things complex while making things simpler.
-Six Sided Star....*facepalm* A skill that SLOWS the monk down...? AND a Capstone ability, AND weaker then Tornado Kick. *sigh* That's two capstone abilities that aren't on the hot bars. And I can say that for a lot of players. What were they thinking?
-Four-Point Fury. Finally a good AOE rotation for monk! Simple, Easy to keep up twin snakes buff, and NONE positional! Only took 3 expansions
-Anatman ????? *sigh*
It wasn't until 5.05 that actually really "fixed" the monk with what players have been asking for since HW.
-Form shift now resets the GL timer!
-all form timers increased by 5 seconds!
-Mantra 7 yalms to 15 yalms!
-meditation popped all 5 chakra out of combat!
-riddle of earth removes all positional when hit!
-riddle of fire recast timer removed!
It's like SE just realized something and just changed the job overnight. But why did they wait til ShB?
Now what they can do is:
-Anatman just gives us full stacks of GL, but procs off of Tornado Kick in combat. Out of combat just gives you full stacks. 90 sec cooldown. Fixed.
-Chakra RNG....just give us a crit chance moddifer for every GL stack. 1%/2%/3%/4% and this is perfect for FoW and FoF as it would "naturally" level out the DPS. Tweak potency.
-Six Sided Star change this to OGC, and remove recast timer stupidity. This way you can weave Tornado Kick, SSS, Elixir Field, Forbidden or Enlightenment during Riddle of Fire phase.
