HELP! I GOT HACKED! GAMEMASTER HELP?

So this afternoon around 2:30 p.m. EST i received a message from a player called Jack Altaaein Saying this: "Square Enix should not allow this update at such sensitive time, please vote against it before they ruin the game > followed by a forums website link, which i will not provide because you will get hacked into. After i clicked on the link (stupid of me) it directed me to log into the lodestone (its looked IDENTICAL) so that's why i though OK this is legit, few seconds after that my internet goes dark, i had to tell my fiance to reset it, it took around 5 minutes to get it back up, i log in again normally and see that i wasn't standing in the same spot as i was when i got kicked out, i look down at my Gil and my 14 million is GONE! i panick and sprint over to my retainer #1 and my other 50 million Gil are also gone! i freak out again and yell i got hacked and my fiance looked at me and said lets call SE, welp their services are down so i had no option but to submit a support ticket which hasnt been reviewed yet since i havent received the notification. I also noticed that there was a 2nd character in place called Moboc Huryc that got into our FC, probably to empty the FC chest, they got in and left. so if you receive a tell with a link DO NOT OPEN IT! please spread the word to prevent this!


EDIT: I reported it to SE already using the support desk in game, we also found out not only my game was compromised but they hacked into our IP address and took out information, they sent a threatening message TO HIS PHONE NUMBER to my fiance saying "youre next, all your gil will be gone too!" and the thing is we dont have any friends in FFXIV and we dont know anyone who plays it either why do they do this sort of stuff?

Unfortunately, it should be standard to not trust links posted within game from strangers. (Like, we don't accept candies from strangers)

Best you can do is update your info, send in a ticket, wait patiently... And see if they'll be nice enough to roll back anything.

You got phished not hacked, but yeah this scam has been going on for a while now from what I've been reading on these forums and over and Reddit. Sucks it happened to you, but I wouldn't trust any random links sent by people you don't know.

Pretty crazy to me how people put this much effort in developing phishing scams to steal gil in FFXIV, is there really that much money to be made for the effort? (Assuming it's RMT related)

Unfortunately, yeah. It must be as it just seems to be never-ending. A quick fix that tends to come at a price (and I mean a lot more than your wallet or gil).

No, you took the phishing bait. I'm sorry I know you don't wanna place the blame on yourself but we've probably all gotten these tells multiple times by now. The website TLD is not identical to anything SE uses.
Knowledge is power here, and understanding what happened is only going to help you and others not also fall for this.

I'm sorry for what happened I feel for you, but understanding exactly what happened to you is important. Your edit makes...little sense. Your IP cannot be hacked per se. Getting your personal information and getting threats is almost unheard of from RMT they kust want to empty your gil and use your character to spam the same RMT message you got in the first place. But if they did have your account access they could also in turn log into your account management and see your personal information. This is likely how they sent you a message, if any.
If you had used a security token on your account, it wouldn't have helped your initial character loss. You would have still had someone log into your character. But it may have stopped them from logging into your SE account management as the OTP would have changed and your personal information wouldn't have been accessible.

Again, it sucks to have happen, but be wary of suspicious links. You can stop it from happening again.

If they hit the scammers website from their computer, the scammers could have gotten their IP. Just, nothing they could really do with their IP lol.

Secondly, pretty sure a security token on the account would have helped the initial character loss, as it's required to use the token to login to the game and get access to the character. A note, there are already plenty of ways to get around two-factor authentication, decent hackers get by it with fair ease. However, anyone with those skills aren't going to give 2 f's about someones final fantasy character.

I feel bad but...its a shame people don't pay attention to the link address actually says before they enter it.
