People were still falling for the twitch scams even after they added notifications to the launcher. Nothing SE does will keep people from falling for it.

Ah yes I think we talked about this the other day ingame. At least I think that was you!

Yeah that's the first time I've heard of this happening. Usually they have absolutely no interest in such things they just move on to the next account that falls for it.

Yeah that's the thing, they throw out bait to as many people as they can. They only need a few bites. It's like how scams for real money in the real world work. Of course you know you're not the next of kin to the Nigerian prince, but someone somewhere might think they are.

There will always be some people who are dumb enough to fall for scams regardless of how much warning they get, but something would still be better then nothing as they've yet to mention anything about the in-game phishing attempts.

Other MMOs leave warnings on their loading screens or in the chat window upon first logging in, and XIV already does the latter for other important information such as maintenance notices and currently active events. I think even just that could mitigate the amount of people falling victim to this significantly.

I got a private message as well today on Zodiark. Got a few different ones actually these last few months. I've been playing since 2.0 and I never used to get these before.
Saying something about don't let FF14 do this in these sensitive times, with a link attached.
    I'm on PS4 so i can't even use the link :P

General rule of thumb, don't go to linked websites from strangers.

If you do, for the love of god don't enter any personal information and as another poster stated, always check the URL.

I remember getting a whisper to a link about "SE doing an update that shouldn't happen" a few days back. I was surprised and recalled coming onto the site about SE delaying the maintenance and I was like "What?" was there something else I missed. I did copy the link and go there and it brought up a login screen which confused me, because whenever I come into the SE Forums I'm already in and if I'm logout it tells me. It was for a brief second, but my Anti-Virus Protection program (Webroot) kicked in and told me this was a dangerous site.

I immediately closed the tab and looked at the link closely. Everything looked normal until I spotted it... that -ndy tag at the end of .com or something like that. I realized it was a fake link while in-game even when the player name looked normal and not the RMT names with "jahadsasjkdf" for example. I told my FC about it and they mentioned it was a Phishing scam.

Despite not logging in I decided to change my password since then. So far my account is fine and nothing is wrong so far. So, just logging in screws you over. I am glad my Virus Protection kicked it, but I wouldn't have logged in regardless as I would've opened up another tab for the official Forum to check it out and then backed out.

    It was a close call.

EDIT: Ugh... the grammar and mistakes. Ugh, sorry about that.
Sorry to hear it happen to you TC. Be wary from random links from now on and I'm going to double-check each link I get to be sure.

This is what came up as a red flag for me. I went to the link and found it strange it was asking me to log back into the forums when I never logged out. I also had the forums site already up in another tab so it didn't make sense as to why it was asking me to log in again when I clearly was already in it.

I got that message too on Spriggan.
At first, reported as rmt. Received same message from that same character minutes later, and blacklisted. I just hope SE deals with those scammers properly, because them not only were trying to scam people, but also used the coronavirus emergency for the scope. Jackals.

As a rule, never click on links sent to you by strangers. Even links sent by friends and family should be scrutinised to ensure that they're legitimate.

I'd suggest that everybody invests in an authenticator as an additional layer of protection. They're pretty useful.
