Getting 6 gathering attempts on nodes with no mention of any extra attempts?

Lvl 71 Bot, harvesting lvl 55 mature trees in The Dravanian Forelands (The Smoldering Wastes). It's almost consistently once every round that one of the trees will give me 6 attempts, even if it isn't shown. I also had 2 or 3 trees giving me 100% HQ chance in the start. I've gathered 316/86 logs of Dark Chestnut Lumber so far, so I've done a few rounds. Is this some RNG running in the background, a bug, or just the text not showing?

Generally, the "special features" of a gathering node will be visible on the node's loot window, at the bottom edge of it. There may be some math involved in some cases, like if your GP max is below a certain number, the feature wont be active or such, but that has the info about extra attempts or extra items per-hit. Basically, the higher level your gathering skill and the better gears and gathering stats you have, the potential for more of and higher quality items per-hit you get.
The HQ percentage bonus is generally shown in the upper left of the nodes window.
Also, sometimes when you target the node, but do not have it open, some feature info may be present on the target info line next to your target.
So, the text is always somewhere on the node.
Activate Perception skill to see additional info on the node's loot window as to percentage chances for HQ per-item.

As for if a node has special features, it is all RNG, however normally at least one node in a node cluster (4 for ARR, 6 for HW/SB/ShB) will always have an increased item count of at least 2 per-hit.
There are also special nodes, Ephemeral, Legendary, and Unspoiled, that can appear at certain times and for a certain duration, of which the latter two require skills to even detect.

Lastly, most nodes also have "hidden" items and "rare" items that are not always visible, but can sometimes be reveled through RNG or skills.

Yeah, I know those things, but the thing here was that I got rewards that wasn't shown, anywhere, as far as I could see. They also came from random nodes, although I most often got 1 extra bonus (100% HQ or 2 extra attempts) per round, in some rare cases even 2. This is what I don't understand. Is it because my level was so much higher than the nodes requirement? I haven't often gathered from nodes below my own level, but now I needed some logs for my carpenter. I've also never gathered in that area before, so I don't know if it's "normal".

Like said, there is a lot of RNG involved with each node, so it is possible to get 100% HQ or multi-hits without having to use any skills.
When a node spawns, your character will basically "roll the dice" on the node as to what if any features it will have (the exception is the one node in a cluster with item-per-hit bonus +1 which will always spawn). When you open the node, it does a skill/level/gear check to see if your level and stats will allow you to access those features. So, its RNG as to what it will have and its your stats/gear/level as to what will be visible/accessible to you.
On the latter, the higher your level over the node and the better stats/gear you have will result in better chances of successfully hits and higher chances of higher quality items.
Also, hidden and rare items are more likely to show.

As for not seeing the values of the features you do have access too (like extra hits, higher % HQ, multi-items, and such), the text will be somewhere in the targeting line and/or in the loot window. The only time you do not see all the info is if you have the box ticked to basically auto-hit the node for all of the item you selected, then you get the progress window which removes the normal loot window. Otherwise, if you are not see it at all, I'm not sure what the issue could be.
