The one big problem I have with this game, and the smaller, but still annoying one

It still clings to the old-fashioned idea that all players play these games to fight. Well, I don't, and I suck at it, supremely. As more and more of us old-timers actually starts to get old, starts to get these idiotic problems you get later on in life, etc etc, we get worse and worse with our reflexes, we start shaking on our hands, sometimes uncontrollably, and we generally are more of a liability than an advantage.

Personally, I'm 62 years old, and have Bipolar disorder II, I shake so much as to not being 100% certain of hitting the correct key, and my reaction time isn't what it used to. And when the starting point was a rather mediocre Death Knight in World of Warcraft, then you can just imagine what it's like now.

I love the crafting, and somewhat the gathering, but I can't for the life of me figure out why the same character get's to do all of them, and max all of them. People in this fantasy world must be gods compared to us.

Anyway, my main problem, as most have figured out by now, is that the developers forces me to level up a DoW or DoM before I can get around in a new expansion, because getting flying requires you to do a lot of quests, on your DoW/DoM, quests that could have been modified to be done by a DoH or DoL just as easily. So, please, developers, change this in the next expansion, so those of us that don't like, or are able to, fight, also can play this game to it's fullest.

Then, to the annoying one. Why don't you create more housing as it is needed? I've done a quick round on Odin, and I don't seem to find any free slots, anywhere. This will of course force the market to go crazy, with prices probably reaching insane numbers (just as in the real world). It's not like player housing is out in the world as such, it's nicely contained in it's own zones and can just as easily be expanded as needed. Why housing? Because as a crafter (only culinarian?) there is a lot of stuff you could use that can only be grown in a garden with cross pollination (or bought on the market for insane prices).

Anyway, great game, for the most part, and I hope to be able to play it for a while.

Unfortunately for you, the whole game is built around progressing the story by fighting. Your place in the story is Warrior of Light, and while you're technically free to ignore the MSQ and go do side content, playing your role in the story the only way you can open up anything new. (People complain about this from a battle perspective too - dungeons open up according to story progress rather than simply character level - but it's just very much the way the game works and it's unlikely they'll be changing it.)

If you don't like to fight, then paladin will be a difficult choice for you because you're expected to take the lead in dungeons. A DPS role has a lot less pressure and you can just follow what everyone else is doing. Red mage and dancer are two "easy" DPS jobs you can pick up at higher levels so you won't have to fight as much to level them up, but you're still going to have to fight.

I get that, but my point is that those of us that started playing multiplayer games with Meridian 59 and Ultima Online are starting to get old, but we're still alive, and many of us still like to play these games. So I think the developers of games need to start thinking about the fact that players won't only be young people anymore. Not many years from now you will have people close to, and above, 100 years playing these games. And these people are worth much more, monetarily, than the younger generations. ROFL

At least you only need to level a fighter once. And if you struggle with fights, you could play as a tank with a dps chocobo. Things might die slowly, but they will die eventually. Also, a good supportive FC could make your gaming a lot easier. This is a pretty good game for older gamers, though. Lots of ways to play that don't involve fighting, apart from the MS-and FC mates can help with that.

Yeah, I got my chocobo as a healer already. Not sure how the SP works though. Have gotten him to level 6, but no idea how that works. Is it fighting only, or is time involved as well? I also do the dungeons solo, a few levels later, although doing the titan on hard mode even at lvl 70 was some work hehe.

In the character bubble-the one on the far left of the line of bubbles on the bottom right of your screen-go to companion, then the skills tab on the top. There, you can allocate points for whatever class type you want. As for leveling, it just takes a lot of time and experience for your bird. Fate farming is the best way. You can ALSO improve him/her with the use of a house stable and the carrots (I can't remember what they're called.) This is a slower method, but very certain. You have a challenge log for your bird (in the "battle" tab) and it helps immensely, but again fates will accomplish these as well.

I'd argue that it doesn't need to cater to everyone. The game is based around its msq. I'm sure there are more freeform mmos out there worth trying. This isnxt even me trying to insult you, just saying you might wanna try another game instead.

Also with housing, it's a server issue. Housing wards can be resource intensive because they gotta render like 30+ completely unique lots per ward as long as a single person remains in the ward. So adding more wards is an endeavor.

If they had made instanced houses instead of wards, housing would probably not be an issue, but say la vee

Of all the games out there, this is the single best one for those who like crafting, that's why I started playing it. I'm sick and tired of games where crafting is treated as some total waste of time that players do when they have absolutely nothing else to do. I guess you haven't really tried playing many games (this isn't ME insulting you, as much as you insulted me)?
