    Hiya! I'm new to both Gungnir and FFXIV, although I played FFXI for a few years after it was first released. I'm looking forward to getting to know the community here as I fumble my way through learning FFXIV.

    Introduction out of the way, I'd be very interested in having a "mentor" of sorts. It's been so long since I played FFXI, and I'm struggling to pick up on some of the intricacies of the game. If no one wants to volunteer (;D), then I'm sure I'll get the hang of it eventually.

    Best wishes and look forward to seeing you all around Eorzea!

    Hello, welcome to Gungnir! A lot of people will help out if you ask; that's how awesome Gungnir is. If you're in Ul'dah then just shout questions and people will always answer.

    Thank you for the response. ^^;

    A quick and probably obvious question - is it possible to get from Gridania to Ul'dah at lower levels, or is it similar to FFXI where you have to achieve level X and then get an airship "license?" It sounds as if all the action is in Ul'dah (the Jueno of FFXIV)?

    You can absolutely get to Ul'dah from Gridania. Just stick to the roads and you'll be fine =)

    Also, green circle next to an enemies' name means they'll leave you alone. The red circle enemies are the one you have to be careful of. And, if you're around 10 levels above of an aggressive enemy (red circle) then they'll be too afraid to attack. There are exceptions to the rule though; there are slug like things that are green, but they'll attack with an AOE in self defense if you get too close.

    From Gridania, head south passed Camp Tranquil, you'll reach the Thanalan area. There, head west, and a little south. until you reach the T in the road. From that point stick south and you'll hit Ul'dah.

    Ul'dah is certainly the Jeuno of FFXIV currently due to it's city layout mostly. Aether teleports inter-city certainly helped that case though. Most people are just stuck in their ways! I've been trying to set up shop with our LS mates in Limsa lately.

    O.O

    That... definitely sounds like the easiest route.

    Another noob question - do skill chains exist in FFXIV? If I remember right, that's what they were called - where each of the classes' TP abilities would interact with each other and create damage bonuses...

    You essentially self SC with combos. It's pretty fun, but I still think player to player combos (ala' SCs) need to be introduced.

    Some are based on positioning etc for a little variety.

    Airlea is right, as you level up you will earn skills that combo with each other, offering skill use that has no cost, or damage benefits. Sometimes even both.

    The multi-party weaponskill use known as Battle Regimens, are getting an overhaul and are said to be re-introduced at a later time. No ETA or even a hint yet.

    Was Battle Regimens like that group skill chain Sprinks mentioned? I remember seeing it a year ago when I was soloing in Coerthas.
