    Regarding Caster Gear

    Hello everyone,

Currently playing a Red Mage and this brought up my attention today while getting a new piece of gear. I replaced the bracelets and I'm curious as to know why the 'Recommended Gear' says it's no better than the one I swapped it with:

    New one:
    Edencall Wristband of Casting ( ilvl480 ):
    VIT: +233
    INT: +239
    DET: +142
    DHR: +202

    Old one:
    Neo-Ishgardian Wristband of Casting ( ilvl 480 ):
    VIT: +233
    INT: +239
    CRT: +202
    SSP: +142

So the basic stats are the same ( VIT and INT ), the ilvl is the same and even the numbers are the same, except for the offensive properties of each. I replaced it because I'd rather have DET and DHR over SSP and CRT.

So I'm curious if anyone knows as to why my recommended gear prefers the Neo-Ishgardian over the Edencall bracelet.

    Cheers, and thanks!

It happens to me too and not only to casters. I think that happens because of the ability to add more materia in the new-ishgardian gear. Still I'm not sure though.

I think it may judge on spiritbond percentage as well? Or there may be a hierarchy of which sub stats they think you should use.

ive had the game try to replace an ultimate weapon with a savage tier weapon of the same ilvl, its better to just choose the gear yourself and save the set

I haven't tested extensively, but from what I can tell the game simply prioritizes crit > dhit > det when recommending, all else being equal.

It might also just be as simple as the Neo-Ishgardian comes first in their database.

It is simple but not in the way you think. The Recommended gear system works completely off of ilevel and will always choose the first item it comes to based on where items are in your Armory Chest. If you have something equiped the system will recommend the highest ilevel item that the current job can equip. If there are multiple equipable items of the same ilevel the first item found from right to left top to bottom will be suggested.

I also previously thought this was the case, but have since been told (specifically regarding why this is an issue for ARR tanks) that it isn't specifically about ilevel but the increased sub-stats that comes with it. In the case of tanks, it looks for VIT which is also added to other classes - in lower numbers at the same level, but a higher-level mage robe may have more VIT despite woeful DEF, so it gets recommended.

This also makes sense in relation to equipping jewellery, which is generally applied correctly even in ARR and HW where it is all-classes but designed for specific roles.
