Sadly that is the truth that is the way it is, people have been complaining about the current state of housing for how many years now? I think we have to start to come to terms that the ward system is part of SE's vision. One may disagree fine, and one may hope for a better system but at this point all you have is hope.
That does not give people the right to question what others do with their personal plot. They obtained it and they are free to clutter it or keep it empty.
Also yeah sorry I am not able to understand or share your feelings. From my eyes just seems like an issue between those that have and those that want. I do not think SE will ever be able to help players with such a personal issue.
It feels like housing is a sinking shop being overwhelmed with sailors, some of which are near the top, the farthest from the water, with their fingers wound deep in the rigging. They hold on tight to what they have and laugh derisively at the multitude of other sailors trying to get out of the water. Occasionally, someone will slip and fall back into the water and a horde of wet sailors will struggle desperately to claim the space and be the first one to grab any available plank. Meanwhile, the ones at the top continue laughing at their efforts, and the ship continues to sink. What makes this even worse is that there is a giant ship nearby watching, full of supplies to fix or at least slow the sinking and full of people that know how to do it, but just watching. Maybe the cries of the sailors will get them to drop a lifeboat or two, or maybe not. Maybe they'll make another, bigger boat that will hold everyone, or maybe not. One thing is certain though, a lot of sailors (players) will be lost before anything is done, and they don't seem to care. This all might be a harsh interpretation of hardworking sailors on that big ship just doing what they're paid to do, but it's hard for a drowning sailor to care about how tough the job is.
I've read the sticky about upcoming houses, and I appreciate the work they're doing, but there ARE ways to immediately improve housing. There have certainly been enough posts suggesting how. More freedom in apartments, the lottery idea, adjustments to make the invisible timer less brutal to players, adjustments to FC home-owner standards to prevent empty and inactive FCs from perpetually holding similarly empty and inactive houses for years at a time, and lots more.

To be fair SE does not have a ship waiting across. You can say instance housing is that ship but they have to construct said ship.
Unless you are saying the different game is the other ship, and if that is the case people are free to jump ship and swim to said ship.
Lol good luck with that. I tried to get one started for apartment upgrades and it largely went ignored.
there have been many apt threads throughout the forums. if you want to get stuff done you'll have to put in the legwork. contact people on those threads, get your friends to help you, etc.
Yeah, I tried. Perhaps my efforts were lackluster though. May you have better luck than I.![]()
1. This housing purchase system is the worst I've ever seen in an MMO
2. I've seen far more intense housing systems used in MMO's, so I really doubt this is a server issue. Unless it legit is just bad coding, which can always be the case. I mean hell, City of Heroes has some insanely awesome housing capabilities, far more intense than this one. And it is currently being run by fan servers just fine. And Ultima Online did it in the open world in the friggn 90's.
3. Let guilds buy entire private wards, and host all their players inside of it if they want. Massive gold sink for guilds to invest in. Opens up tons of personal plots. Lets guilds stick together, and build their community. Also give the guild a "communal" house that is really large. Hell, you can even throw it on Mogstation, TONS of guilds would buy into it, and you get more money if it truly is that big of a strain on the servers (Which I doubt, or it is their own fault it is a strain).
4. Housing provides a HUGE timesink, and something that can always be updated, providing the player more things to do with their house. You can just add a simple graphic tied to a huge achievement, that provides 10+ hours of gameplay for each player hunting for it. It is a big detriment to the player base not being to have access to housing simply due to how the game handles it.
^ Pretty sure a lot of it IS bad code. Remember, the basis of the game is built on the old code of the failed 1.0. They're slowly improving (after all, we're getting flight in ARR now) but it's gonna be a while to the massive changes everyone wants unless they're all 100% willing to forgo months, maybe a year+, of regular content.
Honestly, if it meant taking the bad spaghetti code excuse off the table permanently and some very nice quality of life and other upgrades afterwards... I'd be willing to give them a year to work on it.^ Pretty sure a lot of it IS bad code. Remember, the basis of the game is built on the old code of the failed 1.0.
