Why does the Emperor's New Shield cost 100k MGP?

When all the rest of the "Emperor's New" stuff, including the PGL fists, are like 2k gil each and from an entirely different source?

Would it really have killed you to simply add the shield that's clearly part of the same set of "invisible" gear to the same vendor that has all the rest of the "invisible" gear? This thing sticks out like a sore thumb now (which, ironically, is exactly the opposite of what it's supposed to be doing)

The only reason I can think of it being like this is because the other "invisible" shield happened to be from Garo stuff and THAT one cost 100k MGP if you didn't want to earn/spend the PvP points on it, and they didn't want to step on the toes of anyone who got that, but come on, that reasoning is pretty lame.

Pretty sure you answered your own question here. I earned it in PvP, which really didn't take too long (I think a single match with Challenge log bonus?), but wouldn't particularly care if they lowered the price on it. Regardless, you can earn some pretty easy MGP if you do the Fashion Report stuff, which people have the guide for on Reddit and doing misc Challenge Log stuff. Hell, if you play ONE match of Lord of Verminion Tournaments against AI, you can earn some pretty insane MGP for the effort.

I'm not complaining about having to farm MGP; I've already got all the buyable minions, mounts, music rolls, TT cards, etc. so I've done a fair share of MGP farming already. (That, and I did get the Garo shield.)

This post is more complaining about the inconsistency. Why call it "Emperor's New" gear and then not even bother to stick it on the same vendor that sells all the other "Emperor's New" stuff? Like I said, the Garo shield thing is not a good excuse. It is in the nature of games like this for stuff to be made easier/cheaper to obtain over time, not to be kept just as difficult/expensive as it was simply because "that's how it used to be" or whatever. The Garo stuff is old by now. It had its day.

Probably is something to do with Garo because it literally was part of the Garo stuff - as in, ALL Garo gear was available for MGP during the event. They probably just changed the name and stuck it with the same price.

Actually didn't realize they even changed the name 'cause the one I have is called "Divine Beast Shield" :P I'm not opposed to them sticking it on the Emperor's New vendor instead, but I could see them doing it this way to keep it consistent with what the exact same shield cost before the event ended. Maybe they'll add it elsewhere later /shrug

It started life as part of the Garo crossover collection. The normal pieces were earned through PVP, but you could get an undyable version through golden saucer. With like patch 5.1 or .2, that collection was removed from the game, but they realized that people might want a shieldless option and there wasn't anything specifically Garo about it. So that one piece remains in Golden Saucer, but renamed to "Emperor's new shield" to fit with the rest of the invisible items.

It's simply imbalanced and inconsistent compared to the rest of the "Emperor's New" gear.

Every single other piece of "Emperor's New" gear is sold by a different vendor, and for far cheaper. I'd like to know why this thing is still an exception. The Garo stuff is, what, 3 years old or so? Didn't the event start somewhere in 2017?

Regardless, the whole "invisible shield should cost 100k MGP because it always used to be 100k MGP and people who bought it in 2017 would get upset if everyone else in 2020 can buy it for 2k gil like all the other Emperor's New gear" argument doesn't hold up that well, considering all the other things in this game that were cheapened, trivialized, or otherwise made simpler to acquire in a similar span of three years' time.

Honestly, you could probly make that much in 30 mins or less. An 80+pt fashion report is 60k for sitting through a 10 second cutscene. A few 3 min matches in Verminion would finish it off. You might even be able to play triad quick enough to finish within 30 mins.

I mean, I personally wouldn't care if it was resolved that way, but I imagine that could irk a number of other people.

Again, this topic isn't really to complain about how difficult it is to make 100k MGP (it's not, but at the same time I hope it's quite evident that it still is a lot more of an investment than 2k gil); it's about this item being inconsistent with its ilk.
