DirectX fatal error 1100000f

Hi,

I have found multiple threads with this error code, but all of them were closed without a solution.

I am getting this error code (1100000f) when trying to launch the application with DirectX 11. It only appears when in windowed/borderless windowed mode and when using alt+tab in fullscreen mode. Which basically means it's unplayable with DirectX 11.

In DirectX 9 I'm getting random crashes and its generally unplayable. Since DirectX 9 is unsupported, I'd like to concentrate on the DirectX 11 error.

Solutions I've tried:
- Reinstall, I also delected the appropriate folder in "My Documents"
- Compatibility mode for Windows 7
- Ran DirectX installer (didn't do anything, since I was already using the latest version)
- Updated GPU driver
- Downgraded GPU driver to older version
- Restarted without any programs in autostart
- Made sure I don't have any overlays active (I never do, since to the known issues they lead to, but I still checked)
- Made sure both executables for ff14 are running on my dedicated GPU (always the first thing I check, unfortunately for me, in this case it was set correctly)
- Unplugged everything attached to the device and ran ff14

GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1050 (mobile)
Driver Version: 445.87
CPU: i7-7700hq@2.8ghz
RAM: 16gb ddr4 2133mhz
Hard Drive: Samsung 860 EVO (where my game is installed, its my D: drive)
OS: Windows 10
OS Version: 1909 (latest)
Graphics Settings: borderless window, didn't get further
FPS Limit: 60 (my monitor won't do more)

Can also provide logs, dxdiag, msinfo, whatever else, if needed.

tried addional stuff:
- Hard reset. Deleted everything from all drives and reinstalled windows
- Force 11_0, 11_1, 12_0 and 12_1 using dxcpl
- used 64 bit launcher

Have any changes happened to the device before the issue began? We would also like to recommend several other troubleshooting steps:

1) Make sure that your hardware is not overheating and remove any overclocks you may have on your graphics card or processor. Please check that any fans or vents are clear of blocks.
2) Disable any additional programs that could cause interference with the game itself including chat programs. Also, remove any custom configurations made using graphics driver-level programs.
3) Turn off Fullscreen Optimizations. Find the executable file for the game (normally found in the install folder), right-click it and select 'Properties'. Under the 'Compatibility' tab, check the box labeled 'Disable Fullscreen Optimizations', then click 'Apply'.
4) Remove any unnecessary USB or audio devices (controllers, headphones, flash drives etc.)
5) Install Windows and FINAL FANTASY XIV onto the same drive preferably the C:/ Drive is possible.
6) Update and reinstall the drivers for your graphics card.
7) Perform a clean boot by opening the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything.

Hi,

to your questions:

I have just started playing FF14, so you could say I always had these issues :P

1. My laptop is sitting on a cooling pad. I had previous laptops die due to overheating, so I keep my current one always cool. In FF14 my CPU and GPU temps are around 70°c, so pretty standard for a laptop under load. I'm not overclocking.
2. Have tried that. I want to emphasize, that I literally reset everything on my Laptop, including reinstalling Windows completely. I have tried closing literally any unneeded process before and after resetting my Laptop while trying to start the game.
3. Fullscreen Optimizations are disabled

5. Not possible, due to limited disk space. I did, however, simulate this by creating a symlink on C: pointing to the game directory on D: and then starting the game via the symlink. This makes windows think it's accessing the game on the C: drive.

Unfortunately, the device information in the provided System Report does indicate that the computer being used does not meet the minimum specifications required to play FINAL FANTASY XIV most notably the Intel(R) HD Graphics Family chipset. We do not support Intel graphics cards for FINAL FANTASY XIV. However, I did notice there is an NVIDIA device that is not listed as the primary graphics card. This suggests that you may be running NVIDIA Optimus which controls whether your system utilizes the base Intel card or the NVIDIA card to conserve battery power. Please try disabling NVIDIA Optimus and see if the error persists. For instructions on how to force the NVIDIA card to be enabled or to disable Optimus, please contact NVIDIA Support.

Hi Rhaervis,

FF14 is already running on my dedicated GPU. I also tried disabling my integrated GPU completely and only use my dedicated GPU, but that didn't help either.

Also, running the game in DirectX 9 works with almost no issues now since I reset my PC (before it hardly worked at all). I want to use DirectX 11 though instead for even better performance and since DirectX 9 is not officially supported and still occasionally crashes.
