Aurum Vale isn't part of the MSQ, it's an optional side dungeon. It's unlocked from the same NPC that gives you Halatali, Qarn, and Amdapoor Keep. It was only needed for Grand Company completion at one point, unless they changed it recently but I can't find any patch notes to indicate they did.
When you think about it, it's not really optional either. You're not gonna advance in GC rank unless you complete that dungeon, and by forgoing it, you can forget about Squadrons, for one thing. I guess if poeple want that Maelstrom storm captain coat, they would feel compelled to go through this.
