Returning player needing advice

Hello and thanks to all in advance for any help!

I'm a returning player who currently has a lvl 50 Black Mage that, I have to say, I have no clue how to use any more. I'm kind of OK with this at the moment as I would like to roll a few different starting classes in order to try some new stuff out.

The question I have is, should I start a new toon so that I get the benefit of going through the story mission (that I barely remember) or should I just go and start with the prospective class trainer on my old lvl 50 BM toon? I ask this because I want to know how easy it will be to level up say a lancer without having the benefit of gaining xp via doing the story missions.

Also, my lvl 50 BM has an almost full inventory. I have almost zero clue what to do with any of this stuff as I've been away from the game for a LOOOONG time haha Feeling a bit overwhelmed by even logging on to that toon. Some guidance would be extremely appreciated!

All that said, I am currently rolling a new character and having a blast going through the story mission and learning Lancer. Should I just stick with this? I would hate to waste all the mats and equipment that I amassed on my previous play through.

Welcome back! If you are overwhelmed with your higher-level character, then I support your decision to start new! Maybe as you play a new toon things will jump back to your memory.

At the end of the day, all the inventory and material on your original character is just data & pixels. Sooner than later it won't cross your mind any more.

Hello, I would advise against starting a new character (and calling them toons). For the most part, your inventory is going to be full of near useless items, this is what I've told every returner the past few weeks and I have yet to hear a complaint. Don't know what it is? Either ask or just sell it off to an NPC. Blackmage is the same as it used to be, you'll remember if you play a bit. Attack with fire, recharge with ice, it's a simple concept it just has other bits and bobs to weave while doing so in later levels. But you can just start a new class at level 1 on the same character without losing story progress.

However since you already created a new character and you're enjoying yourself, why even ask the question? The game is supposed to be fun, so have fun with it! Do what you enjoy, even if that's repeating quests. You will find very quickly that you are actually pretty under-equipped on Glithial Zaine, and your new character will likely find themselves in a better position in the long run.
