Housing is just so broken

While I understand and even appreciate the steps the game has taken to prevent house flipping and hoarding, I hate the auto timer system with a passion that burns with the fierceness of a thousand suns!

I literally just spent 14 hours straight camping at a small plot to lose said plot to a player who turned up 10 minutes ago.

I don’t think I would have been this incensed had I lost it to the other poor player who was with me for around 12 hours of my marathon vigil. But to loose it to someone who just rocked up is soul destroying absolutely soul destroying.

There has to be a better way without drowning the space on the server or loosing that neighbourhood feel that only exists in YP’s head

They could make a lot of housing much more available if they went and made the one house rule retroactive. Its really unfair that these hoarders got away with it because grandfather clause

I think (hope) that if we came up with a genuinely workable solution that wasn’t just “do instanced housing” but met the requirements of the spoodledoodle main coding, limited server space and possible abuse, then perhaps they would listen

The main reason of timer's existence was 4.1 Shirogane release nightmare, when 768 plots (it was 12 wards back then) on every existing server (even small ones) were sold out in first 2 minutes. It led also to adding 6 more wards in each zone in 4.2 (thus, expanding amount of houses from 3072 to 4608, which was the biggest update so far).

That said, I'm honestly not sure why it's still up - it should be a thing when new disctrict is released or new server is created (though looking at my server, the latter isn't needed, we still have plenty of free plots even in popular areas at minimal prices), but at other time there is no real need for it. It doesn't save from multiple plot holders either, it just makes people sit on plot for some unclear amount of time, and some start use autoclicking bots on top of that, because it's realistically impossible to sit all day on one place without moving and blinking.

That said, as much as I think that system overall is fine as it is, having timer outside of periods when it's really needed is a bit weird.

In fact, since the release of the housing the community is so-so.

People were expecting some kind of evolutive housing on floating islands, a house for everyone (as it has been on Wildstar, not released at that time).

The first time, when it was FCs only people were complaining it was too expensive. When SE opened it to individuals because of actually a lot of available slots, with the guarantee to not lose the house, individuals started to buy.

When some FCs and people have started to buy whole plots and houses for alts leading the market to dry, people started to realize the feature was not so nice especially after some wards became ghosts towns (and black market on PF or Reddit with real money).

SE decided to make we can lose house and as some kind of lesser evil, added apartements.

The housing is broken since the beginning, people have made a lot of suggestions in different threads but with no result. There are rumors about an evolution to come and Ishgard would be the start. We will see.

I always laugh that in 2002 SE provided a FREE house to every level 1 in FFXI yet in 2014 they were incapable of doing the same thing in a vastly more sophisticated game engine and server system.

Yes, FFXI's houses were a tad crude compared to FFXIV's, yet in a game where it was GUARANTEED that a large proportion of the players would want a house SE designed something totally broken from the start .. better a crude one that's available than a more sophisticated one that isn't.

The apartments are crude but I think apart from one server, are available to everyone that had 500k in their pocket.
