    Comprimised software files

    Hey what's happening community,

Hopefully you all are well. I have just experienced an event most tragic in regard to the game software. So here is the scoop... for years I have been running the lag bolt on Dx 9.0, with an office pc from 2012. Now my original download of the game was from the Open Beta in which they sent me a compressed zip file in order to run the software. Aside from the occasional lag, d/c, late payment, and long loading screens I suffered very few errors with the software. Just a few days ago I was able to power on a more updated composition of hardware, meagre though it is. In any case, I thought it may be possible to make a file transfer of the game client from one system to the next with a network sharing option. The result was the incapacitation of all save my precious screenshots. Now here are my questions.... Am I able to successfully complete this idea on my own? what is a better route to take: should I download through steam and attempt a resurrection of my dinosaur data? Should I download a free trial software, is it possible without creating a SQUE account?

anyways...Thanks if you are able to help.

Screenshots as well as character configuration data are stored in a separate directory. Check C:\Users\(Your user)\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\ on your original machine.

In the launcher there is a backup option. Use that on the original install pc, then on the new pc download it

The best way is to back up the game settings folder in My Documents as Littleimp mentioned above that holds your personal settings like GUI settings, macros, hotbar layout and yes, your screenshots and also any character creation screen data you may have also saved.

Once it's backed up and saved in a secure location you can reinstall the game from scratch - if you lack the install file (if you were in the Beta, you should have backed up the installation file you downloaded at the time), then SE does offer the installation file for free for people in your situation as this naturally does not include the serial code required to register an account that comes with the actual game you purchase. As you already have an account active and code registered, that's not a problem (hence why SE keeps this link active, it's for existing players as a backup in case they lose their installation file). The official client download link can be found here.

Uninstall the original installation first, and then run the installation file after downloading it from the above link. Once you've reinstalled the game, copy the backup FFXIV folder back into your My Documents/My Games folder, copying over the default one the installer automatically created. Then when starting the client should skip the screens asking you to create an account and stuff that running a new installation of the game would normally have, and just go straight to the launcher as normal (don't forget to set under options on the launcher the ability to automatically download updated expansion files as well, as the expansions are not included in the above installer) and patch it all up. When the game loads you should have all your hotbars, macros and settings restored.

As for your screenshots, in future it might pay to back those up regularly to another location (such as another drive) just in case something happens that wipes your installation. You can never be too careful!

    Hopefully this has helped.

Aaaanywaay… It totally just went south. One of the downloads is losing connection during installation, the other deleted the previously existing game data in order to make room for new installation. Both of them with over 2-3000 min of waiting, and constant loss of progress is the result of failure to install. Anyway, I may just have to buy again through steam, in which case maybe I can talk a friend into doing free trial or something,. I know that is going to take a good bit download time as well. What is the solution to this? Because it seems investing hundreds of dollars has little to no avail. Maybe just a break

You do not buy the software through Steam (or via SquareEnix), you buy game time access, as in the account..... So you do not need to buy it again, because you already have an account.
    The game client is free.
Transfer the game install location files from the old computer to the new computer.
Copy the game saved data/screenshots from the older computer ( C:\Users\<Your computer user name>\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn ) to the same location on the new computer.
Install the Steam Client on the new computer, then see:
