Im not saying that i would trust a moogle any further then i could kick one, or that i would ever turn my back on a pixie. Its specifically the way the sahagin have been used in the story. During the leviathan arc of the MSQ we see their head priest die, then use an echo-like power to jump his consciousness into another body. Where exactly did they learn this trick? During the most recent dungeon, we see (seemingly)low-level sahagin channeling aether into ancient crystals and calling forth all manner of badness to stop us from interfering. Who taught them that? And how did they know which crystals to use? The ondo talk about/act as stewards of the ancient ones? (This one i may be misremembering from the MSQ, but its why they wanted a lamp from not-gerolt.) No one else aside from us on the first knows anyone more ancient then the Ronkas. I get the feeling that we're gonna see a reveal at some point that the sahagin were created back during the amorautine days as a servant race. Its possible that the terminus event wasnt summoning as many sea-horrors as it was land horrors(one notable exception of course), and they could have survived that way. Once the land is flooded, they probly left the ancient structures because of the memory of what was lost - only to then lose THAT memory over time and come back to the structures eons later.

I might be wrong about all of this, and its not a super coherent theory. But... i dont trust the sahagin.
