Ishgard housing, "different" ? Housing fixed?

I have been seeing some things said around here and there, and now I saw this and started to think.


How many people would be upset, or how many people would be happy, if Ishgard housing was different from the rest?

I am aware there is a lot of speculation as to how and when this housing district is going to be opened, but it is clearly housing.

The Ishgard housing has the exact same "layout" as the other districts in the amount of larges, mediums and smalls.

There is speculation that its possible Ishgard might be the first fully instanced housing district?

This means, the visual side of Ishgard might be purely NPC based, and the players will get, hopefully an entirely unrestricted housing district?

What I mean, is I'm speculating that Ishgard, might have "unlimited" plots, but it will not allow players to have a "neighborhood" like you would in the other districts.

Or more simply put. Visiting the neighborhood, will be the NPC housing area, but you enter an instanced menu to visit individual players houses much like how apartments work, but a single outside and inside plot, similar to mog houses and the outdoor area in FFXI?

How many people would hate this concept of "no neighbors," and how many players would welcome "unlimited" plots?

Or is this way off the mark in some peoples minds?

Personally, I think Ishgard is the perfect place to add this "individual plot" instanced housing.

It ties perfectly with the lore.
The NPC's are having this built, so they have homes due to the Dragonsong war.

Ishgard is designed in such a way a single plot by itself make sense.
The house can be just a plateau with a stairway leading to the plot of land, that is off to the side of the central housing district.

It could also be the "final reward" to the player/world/server for their efforts in restoring the housing district.
"Thank you so much for your efforts Warrior of Light, here is a specially made plot for you and you alone, if you so choose to purchase it. We saved it just for you."

Those are just my thoughts. I also would very much welcome this concept.

That's an interesting thought. I hadn't heard that particular speculation before. I personally have no great and overwhelming urge to live in Ishgard, but if it turns into that kind of setup that would be cool, and would go a very long way towards addressing the larger housing issues. And, if true, it could provide a good template for other new places like Doma or other places. Not sure how they'd retcon the current wards in that case, but still.

I'm not going to particularly hold my breath that it'll happen that way, but a shift over to housing that adjusts itself to the server population would be a wonderful thing if they can manage it.

I think some people are projecting what they personally want, but I have no doubt this is just going to be a case of same system different dressing. The only thing new is the build up to its release.

I find it a bit strange they show the houses on the housing plots but that might just be a part of the firmament construction showing people what they are building. Would be nice if they instanced that area but I doubt it'll be different from the other areas but one never knows. At the least I hope they have upgradeable apartment they once talked about coming as a part of this update.

Aion had a similar system in which Apartments were instanced and unlimited for players, wheras houses were limited and not. And if you just want a cozy space friends can visit to yourself, you have the option for it.

So, I would very much like for it to be this way.

If it turns out that all the plots will be instanced, then the number of neighbors players would have would increase dramatically instead of being zero. You would be able to see other players walking along the pathways and other common areas though the houses around your plot would be some generic facade like what we currently see.

At this point, I'm willing to wait and see what the final result is. Even if it turns out to be a standard housing district with wards (and the current area we're working on is a Ward 0 for NPCs), at least it will be an increase to housing that will give more players an opportunity to get a house if they want. And if it does turn out to be instanced instead of a ward system, perhaps it will be a chance for players to get houses for each of their alts without being forced into creating solo FCs to get one for them.

as an owner of a private medium house I would be perfectly fine with turning all private houses into instanced, while keeping the current ward system for FC houses

I actually like the neighborhood-feeling with each garden individual designed by the plotowner and the people hanging out there.

What i believe is a good idea is ... we have Sea of Clouds, a massive amount of small flying islands. Am i the only one who sees the Potential in Instanced flying islands for housing?

If nothing is changed it can tell you how its going to end up ... the will be a maintenance before houses go life ... and then the dice will roll.

Managed to get a day off?
Do you hit the perfect time to be early in queue?
Do you get in the Loby?
Do you get booted from queue?
Do you have incredible long load times?
Will you crash when zoning into the new zone?
Will you pick 1 of the districts that not 100 ppl ran for?

and if you beat those variables, of which you have no direct influence (cept the first)... will you be the fastest? theirs 3 Large ones per ward ... and boy everyone and their mum will run for them.
Fc's will try, solo players will try.

Making Housing "Fair" ... is difficult but first come first serve might be a bad way after a Maintenance.
Our Fc, has a large in Mist and we will try for a house in Ishgard as well, we have a fall back considering we have a plot ... but many dont have that luxury.

If they go by FC first ... thats a huge joke and all the skeleton Fc's with 1 alt in them will buy up plots. Mind you i fully support a "a fc of decent size should have a house" since its a big social aspect.
If they allow relocating, ppl will all move into Ishgard. this will of course also free more plots in other areas but that wont help players who wanted to go to Ishgard.

The hole they dug is deep and all the flextape they use to hold it together is barely doing its job. Players aim for loopholes for personal gain, and SE is not going to punish someone who found a "legal loophole". Thats why some Wards are owned by like 1-2 ppl, or well ... their alts.

Personally i'd love neighbors, maybe make certain wards FC only ... but even then all the fake FC's come crawling in ... you know what theres no cure for this anymore cept a full reboot and that would start a massive complaint from the players ... Flextape anyone? Think we will need it.
