We have Relic, why not Mythic questlines?

So, to start out, for those not in the know, a mythic weapon in ffxi was a hardcore version of a relic weapon. They were, in some cases (more so nowadays), the pinnacle or achievement in weapon form and took a crazy amount of work and patience.

Ok, now that I have that out of the way... why not put a "mythic" questline in for those of us who want a more challenging experience, than the standard, usually extremely casual and easy, relic questline, or just simply killing the newest 8-man extreme. A weapon that we could, like the relic, continue to build on throughout an expansion, even possibly beyond. They could even be the continuation of the relic from the previous expansion(s).

There are many people on these forums who have had many great ideas over the years that could be used for this. Like farming items from extreme versions of dungeons, which has been asked for again and again. Even old zones like Eureka could be given an extreme version. Heck, we could even have alternate versions of the zones we already have, like aether corrupted versions of La Noscea or Thanalan, that have some fun lore to explain their existence. With maybe Nero as the lead NPC, this would also give a character that people want more of, a more prominent role in the story.

This would use fewer resources as the maps are already there and could even breath new life into niche content. Mythic treasure maps, for an example. Extreme FATEs in all these interesting areas of the maps that are completely unused, Churning Mists and Dravanian Forelands have a myriad of these as just an example. Gathering items from all these different areas or requiring certain kills, could make for a great time.

And if SE really wanted to add a new zone or two, there are a crazy amount of underground structures that were in version 1 and even map areas they could use as inspiration if they still have the old lore notes for them.

It could be a way to incorporate some more difficult content into the game for those who would really love it, while using minimal resources.

    Anyway, thoughts?

As far as Relics in FFXIV go, they've already referenced Mythics with Alexandrites in the Zeta relic line in ARR, and they wouldn't really be able to implement some specific amazing effects like on original Mythics, because that would break the game. They also are unwilling to make anything relic-like upset game balance or be better than raid weapons, at least at first when patches go out, so that people are incentivized to do the new content and not find it pointless because they have a Relic.

If Mythics required that we go beyond current raiding standards, then it's likely that most people will seem them merely as trophy pieces. Which if you just want an achievement trophy, go and get the Ultimate weapons and glam'em up as the Ultimate raiders all seem to do.

I wouldn't mind a more hardcore grind. Gives something extra to do and people who are willing to commit to it should be rewarded in a cosmetic way I would imagen. Much like the Ultimate weapons, I wouldn't mind a more advanced grind opposed to a simple farm. But then again, Eureka did offer this sort of content although it really bottled down to a brain dead grind eventually where you just followed the group.

But I reckon what would be more suiting to the mythic questline is that there are multiple variants that give a certain flair to your Relic weapon. For example, a person who excels at PvP can give their weapon a cool PvP flair if they score a high enough standing over an expansion, someone who excels at PvE could, for example, obtain an item after killing all savage fights and get that cool flair from those fights. But then for more casual orientated players, you can add some other things like collecting all the minions of the expansion or all the mounts from the trials, or a Golden Saucer flare...

This would make the player who frequents a certain type of content stand out not just with their achievement or title but also being able to modify their relic weapon to a more "Mythic" flair that not all people will be able to obtain.
