    Can't connect - Error 2002

I can't connect to any of the FFXIV datacenters.

I built i new computer and am trying to connect using my wifi but just can't. After much troubleshooting I am sure that the problem is from my wifi router. Since using the Ethernet cable on my other computer works fine and using a mobile hotspot on my new computer also works fine (The problem is not on any windows configuration then).

Yesterday I was trying to forward a bunch of ports following some topics in this forum, like:

    http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/98546

    https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...621.1585247176

    https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...to-Data-Center

Eventually the game just started working but I was unsure that that was due to any changes I had done. I unforwarded the ports ant tried again but the game continued to work (suggesting that it working had nothing to do with the port I have forwarded)

Today the game is not connecting again, again I forwarded de ports but this time nothing changed and the game still don't work.

Currently I have the following port forwarded:

    TCP:
    80
    443
    8080
    54906-54907
    54994-55006
    55021-55040
    55296-55551

    UDP:
    55296-55551

I should add that sometimes I managed to get to the character selection screen, fewer times even I manage to actually get in the game but never for too long.

    What should I do?

Good afternoon and thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums

Are you connected directly to the router or are you using WiFi? Have any updates or changes been made to your network settings?

Via wifi, as I said there is no problem if I connect via ethernet, since the other PC is connect and is working fine.

I have been making changes to the network configuration in order to try to connect but the initial setup was pretty standard.

Now I have add my new PC IP to the list of DHCP IP reservation. Set the DNS to ISP 75.75.75.75.

    Besides the forwarded ports.

Thank you for the reply Apoema.

To clarify, have you attempted to use an wired connection on your new PC? Additionally, what kind of wifi device do you use (Integrated motherboard, USB adapter, etc.)?

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

Well I had gave up on SE support on this, so sorry for not replying Einmimiria. There goes my planned update:

I ended up changing the whole modem/router configuration in my house just so I can bring the Ethernet cable to my living room and connect to my gaming pc. It's a far from ideal solution and I would really appreciate any ideas so I can keep cable clutter away from my living room but it works.

So yes I can connect to the game using the Ethernet cable. I also tested that I can connect to the game using the WiFi in my primary computer (which is now running on the WiFi). This really throw away my WiFi network as the root of the problem theory, since my primary computer don't even have any port forwarding configuration set for it.

This post and Einmimiria reply made me think that maybe there is some incompatibility between my wifi card and FFXIV? I never thought something like that would be possible but my pc has an integrated wifi card, I do have a usb adapter available I will try using that...

    It works,

I am somewhat mad about this, I lost so much time trying crazy configurations, passing cable around. And using a WiFi usb adapter solved my problem.

For the common good there goes my configuration, my integrated WiFi adapter (the one that don't work) is: Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168, my USB adapter is: D-Link DWA-131 Nano USB Rev-E. I updated the driver of my integrated card it but didn't help.

I can't say I am perfectly happy with this solution though, having two WiFi cards in my PC and using the external one just feels wrong. Also why also the hardware matter for this specific game and not for everything else? But yeah, better than bring the Ethernet cable to the living room.

    Ok, real, final solution!

Going to Device Manager > Network Adapters > Intel Dual Band > (Right Click) Properties > Advanced Tab, and setting "802.11a/b/g Wireless Mode" to 2.4Ghz 802.11b/g solves the problem!

Looks like the problem was on the 5Ghz WiFi network and that is why changing the WiFi adapter helped and probably why I never had problem outside of this PC (since my other computer always use the 2.4Ghz band anyway).

The remaining question now is why FFXIV took problem with my 5Ghz WiFi, it is true that Google Wifi has a exotic standard that merge the two bands in the one Wifi Network and that might have helped but I still have no idea why should this matter to FFXIV.
