Lalafel are beasts now?

Live letter just announced the next beast tribe is the dwarves (which is the lalafel of the first). So lalafel are now considered a beast race? I was expecting nu mou to be the crafting race (as a group of traders it made sense to me) but nope, dwarves.

Dwarves as beast tribes was mentioned quite a while back during Shadowbringers reveal, so we knew they were coming at some point. And I'm pretty sure "Beast tribes" just refers to this specific type of daily reputation content. Memes aside, Moogles in Heavensward were beast tribe type of content but we don't really refer to them as beasts.

Hmm, that is a bit of an odd choice. I'm assuming they didn't opt for nu mou though as they already used a tribe in Il Mheg (although I agree they would have felt like a better choice).

Beast tribe is also lorewise an arbitrary designation given to certain races. It's a plot point in the BLU questline that Mamool Ja are able to skirt Ul'Dah's "beast tribe" laws by simply NOT being in the list of beast tribes. Which makes it come out that beast tribes are more "race we (Eorzean society) don't really care to find more about, or which we don't consider part of 'civilized' society."

Which is a little odd since Tomra looks more organized than the Sunseeker settlement in Ala Mhigo.

...at the same time you have "Amal'jaa" (I forgot their name on The First, sorry) living in Crystarium as caretakers of the Amaro - instead of being considered a "Beast Tribe" and being feared by the people living in the cities.

I actually really like that because it shows that there isnt a valid point to call one part of the "intelligent" (or shall we say "spoken"?) population "beast tribe". Its all a matter of perspective and "cultural development" - on The First it went in such a way that lalafell/dwarves are living only in their own settlements, dont mix much with the rest of the world and are probably "feared" by the people living in Kholusia. While the Amal'jaa developed culutrally in such a way that no one minds them.

It really shows how artifical the term "Beast Tribe" is, how it has nothing to do with intelligence or appearence and is mainly a way to discriminate against other beings.

...kinda intresting that people get upset about it being used in regards to lalafell, but dont have that much of an issue when it comes to other races being labelded "beasts"...

To be fair, I don't recall any of the other main races being referred to as beasts. There could have their own tribes, sure, but beast tribes have generally referred to the various mob-types scattered throughout the game.

I personally don't care and find it a bit amusing, but I can see why people may think it's odd that a Lalafell is now being tossed into this group.
