Constant 90k disconnects - but only from one system

My wife and I both play FFXIV, each on our own laptops. I've been using the same system for several years now with almost no problems. My wife had been having issues with her system due to the graphics card being not-so-good, and she would quite routinely be dropped from the game, especially in dungeons. A few days ago I replaced her laptop with a brand new one ... And now the game is entirely unplayable for her.

I've seen quite a few posts about random disconnects with a 90k error, and most point (incorrectly) to a router issue, or a server issue, or a network configuration issue ... However, none of this makes sense. My laptop almost never disconnects.

I removed all forms of AV, updated her drivers, even completely redownloaded and reinstalled FFXIV, but nothing is helping. However, I did some testing today and found something odd. I had a ping test to Sargatanas running in the background. Outside of the odd lag here and there, every single time I switched from the command prompt to the FFXIV window, the ping stream would time out, and then resume when I went back to the command window.

I'm convinced 100% this is a client issue, rather than a pure network issue. Any ideas?

Here's a snip from one of the packet traces. Every single time-out aligns with me switching windows.

Good morning and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

The ping test you did seems very unstable. Is it possible to provide a trace route as well?

If you haven't tried them already, I'd suggest doing some of the following troubleshooting:

    1) If you are connecting to your router using a wireless connection, try connecting using an Ethernet cable.

    2) Try a clean boot. Simply open the task manager and select the 'Start up' tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. This will make sure that no background processes are interfering with the game.

    3) The game will use the Internet Explorer web browser to connect to the internet. Open Internet Explorer, then open the "Tools" setting, go to "Internet Options" and adjust the following settings:
    - Under the "General" tab, please delete ALL browser history.
    - Under the "Security" tab, please move the slider to the lowest possible settings or no higher than "Medium"
    - Under the "Privacy" tab, click “Advanced” and select ‘Accept’ under both First Party and Third Party Cookies.
    - Under the "Advanced" tab, please make sure that "Allow software to run or install even if signature is invalid" is CHECKED.
    - Make sure that all SSL and TLS (EXCEPT SSL 3.0) are CHECKED. [SSL 3.0 should be UNCHECKED]
    - Hit "Apply" to save the settings, and then "OK, to close the Internet Options menu.

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

If it's the same issue as me, it is 100% a FFXIV game/server issue that Square Enix needs to fix. I've included some troubleshooting I've done below to prove this, hoping others can try as well, and give as much data to Square to help troubleshoot.

I have 2 different PC's on the same network. On one PC, I did ALL of the suggestions Square recommended, reinstalled the game, ran network diagnostics, etc. On another PC, none of the changes, and yet I still have the issue on both PC's.

Interestingly and what proves it's FFXIV server/game issue, is that on both PCs, my wife has ZERO issues playing FFXIV on her accounts. No disconnects ever. Not once. And when I look at resource monitor server connections for both accounts, they connect to different IPs, even though we are both on Midgardsormr server.

Also, I've run resource monitor on Windows that tracks the TCP connections to FFXIV servers, and when I get disconnected... it records 0 packet loss, and 0 latency issues. My max latency is a cool 65ms, and I'm halfway across the country on a fiber connection. (Windows Key + r, type in 'resmon' then enter to run Resource Monitor, then look under TCP Connections and find ffxiv_dx11.exe to see the server / connection details.

While I'm sure there are people who do have client/ISP issues, I have concrete proof that my issue is a FFXIV server/game issue. But unfortunately I haven't been able to get a support rep's response to dig into it, even though I've reached out via Support Ticket, GM Ticket, and these forums in the last week.

I'm trying to post this on any threads that seem similar so hopefully my troubleshooting can help you with yours as well, and Square Enix can use to resolve this Good luck!

    Good afternoon,

    Trace complete.
It's been quite bizarre. For the last two days, there's been no issue with connectivity. We ran a few dungeons together and an alliance raid to really test the system. She was connecting faster than my laptop was, for the first time ever. And now again today, she was having issues. Not as bad as before, but still disconnections ...

I hadn't previously checked which tcp connections were being made. I'll look into that as well ... I'm curious now!

She just dc'ed again. I had the resource monitor running this time as well. Very similar -- She had 0 packet loss before dc'ing, and the lag was consistent with the ping times she was receiving.

I'm honestly disgusted with the way the team is actively ignoring the players that report this same issue and then giving their cookie cutter response and trouble shooting tips. Never have I been so disappointed in this game's response to player concern. To be actively ignored really shows me how much the team doesn't care about those disconnecting right now. The game is literally unplayable for some and they haven't even addressed this an issue on their side. I feel like my subscription is being wasted. This is so frustrating.

Download PingPlotter and enter the server IP. Let it run for 30mins and see what the results are.

Another interesting update. I'm connected to 204.2.229.92. She is connected to 204.2.229.88. Again, she is still getting constant disconnects.

Haven't had a chance to run PingPlotter yet.
