If you have the gil, you or your FC should be able to get a house and eventually upgrade it to a larger size.

Anything less than it is, and will ALWAYS be, unacceptable. The devs put themselves in a corner by wanting neighborhoods instead of proper instanced housing.

I disagree on that one, instanced housing get boring really fast as it feel pointless. Well it feels like playing the sims all alone in your house. Your action are meaningless since nobody will be impacted.

Considering this point of view, it is valid only for FCs housing since it is a shared housing.

    Interiors are instancied already.

Having the feeling to be in a dormitory city is not exactly what I call a neighborood feeling. This said by someone who owned two mansions. I don't miss the neighborood, I miss the gardening and the space I had.

Even thought they will open Ishgard one day or another, I'm not sure to take any house since I would prefer an instancied housing I'm sure to keep and where I can put all the collections I can already craft rather than have a fake show off effect, a dormitory city feeling and the risk to lose everything I crafted.

Normality is just an average. I'm the weird, you're the bizarre.

I disagree, it actually creates a hub where everyone stands outside, people talk and advertise their houses, and visit others.

House parties were a huge thing in Runescape that had instance houses, simply for this reason (and FF14 houses are waaaaay better-looking than Runescape ones).
You could spend hours just chatting to people, and visiting all the different houses.
(I had mine at Rimmington, as it's pretty easy to get to, and was in a convenient place... But it's been too long for me to remember why it was convenient there.... Probably farming)
So instance housing might actually be good for this game, who knows (saying this as a current home-owner in FF14).

Considering you barely even see anyone loitering around their houses, I don't think many people care about the neighborhood aspect. Regardless, the main priority should be allowing everyone to have a house not making a feature where only a faction of your player base can enjoy it. Imagine if the next 24 man only awarded loot to the first 1,000 participates or that only 100 players could get the mount for clearing Savage. The backlash would be absolutely immense.

That all being said, Ishgard housing will likely come out sometime in Shadowbringers. So that will certainly add a lot more housing options.
