I mean i can understand the idea behind that decision but than again this things can also happen to people without the virus. Like changes in RL, longer work trips or holidays, even if you just want to take a break from this game for a month or two you house will get auto demolished. Also even with that long workshifts it should be still be possible for everyone to long in quick for 5 minutes, visit their home and log out again. Its not like you need to do this everyday, once a month is enough and that should be doable for everyone who realy wants to keep his house, no matter how busy your RL is.
Or if you lose your job because of Covid-19 and can't afford a sub, its a good will thing they do it during and after a major earthquake in Japan. They probably don't want to cause more stress to people during obviously a rather stressful time.
The housing is broken. There's unfortunatly nothing new.
Many people don't give a f*** about neighborood but they keep this system as if neighborood were the Alpha and the Omega.
The neighborood is broken since individuals can get a house, it makes ghosts towns but never mind, they prioritize wards with broken neighborood. sigh...
They could upgrade flats, offer several size, a greenhouse but no... always wards...
With a centrale aetheryte they could propose instancied housing with gardens and simulated neighborood but... we don't see anything of this kind.
I have no illusions about Ishgard.

La normalité n'est que la moyenne de nos folies individuelles.
Normality is just an average. I'm the weird, you're the bizarre.
Imo the smart move if feasible would be to open new wards everywhere and add Ishgard with the increased number at the same time.
Still a bandaid fix to a not so great system but still a bit better than funneling everyone into a battle over one housing area like when they added Shirogane.

Yeah people have to stay home. Which means they can't go to work and earn a pay check, and pay for the game sub, because what ever they have saved up etc will be used on more important things..
The housing wards are the deadest zones in the game. Thing is the inside of the house is instanced. It's not like you can be walking along and see people through the window, which I'm sure people would complain about if that were possible. Iirc Wildstar gave you a big plot of land in your own instance, but you also had neighboring plots. SWTOR housing is instanced but it feels much less claustrophobic. It would be cool to have your own floating island in the Sea of Clouds.

So which is it? Game needs more wards? Or low pop servers have an overabundance?
If housing is important, just transfer home servers?
There will never be enough to satisfy high-pop worlds, and attempting to do so would be foolishly exceeding the demand of lower pop worlds. By failing to meet the demands of the high pop servers, they incentivize players to balance the server load by transferring to lower pop servers to meet their needs.
We have been asking for more housing and the option to have instanced house ad nauseum since housing was released with only 8 wards and no subdivisions and no automatic generation of wards as they were needed, which was promised when housing was being introduced and like oh so many things, never spoken of again after it wasn't implemented. One of those reasons to not believe anything you hear until you see it in the actual game and also the reason they are so tight lipped these days.
Just gotta face facts, they will add wards every now and then, but they are not in any rush and do not really care if you have feedback about it cause their mind is made up. Its low priority. Each patch seems massive but they are getting progressively less meaty and with the story line coming to an end likely in 6.x, who knows what they will do with the game as a whole after. Especially after Yoshida moves on, which will also likely be at the same time, he has already said as much.
...Or they could just add wards based on server population. So which is it? Game needs more wards? Or low pop servers have an overabundance?

Well i cant realy belive that like for a big studio like SE and the FF Franchise it should not be possible to find a solution. I also think its more like Anima said, they just dont care and if complains get to big they just add a handfull of wards that still dosnt solve the problem. They should just enable buying plots on other worlds and allowing to transform private houses into FC houses, that would allready help quite a bit even if it dosnt solve the problem. althenas approach also dosnt sound so bad, low pop servers dont need the same amount of wards like high pop servers and in the feature the numbers of wards added should depend on the size of the population of the server. In my DC alone are 2 worlds where you could cut easly 3-5 wards from each zone and there would be still enough free plots for the ppl from this server.
Also aslong transfer comes with so many penalitys and restrictions for sutch a high price, transfering to another world is not an option. Other MMOs before and after this game was released handle stuff like this way better. Either SE is just incompetent or to greedy when it comes to this stuff.
