    Frequent disconnects error 90001 - 90002

    Good Morning,

Every 10-30 minutes I am disconnected from the server with either a 90001(most common) or 90002 error. I had absolutely no issues with disconnects until 4/21/20. I had hesitated to make a new thread on this as there were other people suffering from the same issue and decided I would piggy back off them to see what solutions may come from it. Unfortunately none of the proposed solutions have worked.

Things I have done on my end:
    - Made sure NIC drivers were up to date for both ports on my motherboard.
    - Uninstalled and re-installed the game.
    - Followed the steps from the typical response given for internet explorer settings and ports that need to be open.
    - Reset my modem.
    - Freed up hard drive space cause I was on the full side.
    - Tried every data center with different characters.

I've invested a ton of time into this game and it's a little frustrating to see that lack of response for individuals with this issue. Any kind of information in regards to a solution to this would be appreciated or at least some kind of acknowledgement that there is a problem would be nice. For now sub is getting cancelled due to the game being unplayable.

If there is more information that you need regarding this issue please ask in a response and I will get you that information.

Good morning and thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

Does this error happen in a particular location in game? Additionally, are you connected directly to the outer? Or are you using WiFi?

Thank you for the quick response, I don't notice it happening by being anywhere specific. It initially happened running through Palace of the Dead, but has happened pretty much everywhere I've been instanced or not. I'm currently wired into my modem, tried a couple different Ethernet cables as well in hopes that maybe it might have been a janky cable but no luck there either.

Good afternoon and thank you for the reply.

Outside of the disconnection, do you experience any long loading times or any kind of lag? Does it happen at a certain time of day when many people would be signed on? Additionally, could you try the following:

    - Port Forward – open the following ports ranges on your router:
    ▼TCP
    54992 through 54994,
    55006 through 55007,
    55021 through 55040
These are remote ports in your router’s firewall. They designate what can send information to your PC and what cannot. These specific ports are used by the game to connect to the local client.

    - Configure the Internet Explorer web browser
Final Fantasy XIV will use the Internet Explorer web browser to connect to the internet. As such, it needs to have the proper configurations to avoid connection issues. Adjust the following settings in the Internet Explorer (not Microsoft Edge) web browser.
Open the IE browser, open the "Tools", go to "Internet Options" and adjust the following settings:
    - Under the "General" tab, please delete ALL browser history.
    - Under the "Security" tab, please move the slider to the lowest possible settings or no higher than "Medium"
    - Under the "Privacy" tab, click “Advanced” and select ‘Accept’ under both First Party and Third Party Cookies.
    - Under the "Advanced" tab, please make sure that "Allow software to run or install even if signature is invalid" is CHECKED.
    - Make sure that all SSL and TLS (EXCEPT SSL 3.0) are CHECKED. [SSL 3.0 should be UNCHECKED]
    - Hit "Apply" to save the settings, and then "OK, to close the Internet Options menu.

If it's the same issue as me, it is 100% a FFXIV game/server issue, and not ISP/client based. While some users may indeed have network issues, mine and other players with similar posts, are definitely not.

To test if your issue is ISP based, you can run tracert to your game server (to find out which server, you can use Windows Resource Monitor, instructions below) If you see any packet loss or massive latency (>400-500ms), it's possibly network related. If you don't have Packet Loss or Latency issues, and all the FFXIV support suggestions don't work, you may have the same issue as me.

I have 2 different PC's on the same network. On one PC, I did ALL of the suggestions Square recommended, reinstalled the game, ran network diagnostics, etc. On another PC, none of the changes, and yet I still have the issue on both PC's.

Interestingly and what proves it's FFXIV server/game issue, is that on both PCs, other members of the household have ZERO issues playing FFXIV on their accounts. No disconnects ever. Not once. And when I look at resource monitor server connections for both accounts, they connect to different IPs, even though we are both on Midgardsormr server.

Also, I've run resource monitor on Windows that tracks the TCP connections to FFXIV servers, and when I get disconnected... it records 0 packet loss, and 0 latency issues. (Windows Key + r, type in 'resmon' then enter to run Resource Monitor, then look under TCP Connections and find ffxiv_dx11.exe to see the server / connection details.

While I'm sure there are people who do have client/ISP issues, I have concrete proof that my issue is a FFXIV server/game issue. But unfortunately I haven't been able to get a support rep's response to dig into it, even though I've reached out via Support Ticket, GM Ticket, and these forums in the last week.

Hopefully my troubleshooting can help you with yours as well, and Square Enix can use to resolve this. Good luck!
