P2P mmorpgs make everyone pay evenly. F2P MMORPG make casual players that can't care the less about the game and will leave soon play for free, and the loyal core of players pay, much more. Bad business practice to artificially inflate numbers.

I think this is an absolutely terrible idea. SE is one of the "top dogs," as far as gaming companies, so to believe XIV will never compete with upper tier MMOs is pretty silly. They have the resources and brand power to bring it back up to the top. Nor is it a niche title, it simply isn't finished.
I prefer Monthly Fee games. They usually care more about their game than Free-to-Play companies do (in my opinion).
I loved Lotro but quit when it became Free-to-Play.
I played DDO since beta, Played Lotro since alpha, 3 years on ddo, almost 4 on lotro, quit both like a bad habit when they went F2P, I wont play a F2P game period, think of this, I cant go to this area less I pay 10 dollars, my friends out leveled me cause they can afford more exp potions, etc etc. it just makes for unbalanced game and I think all of us play ff games for the challenge.

Think it depends on the "free" model.
Nexus published games such as Dungeon Fighter Online and Vindictus have bad pay models. DFO, you can pay for additional credits to continue a stage, powerful healing items, and a random customization item (which is the most painful, since you pay real money for a chance to customize one character on one aspect of them and have to trade to other players in hopes to find your desired piece). Then Vindictus only allows customization that expires in 30 days. And both use a fatigue/token system for how many dungeons you can take on for the day.
DDO and LOTRO has a different F2P feel than Allods Online or Runes of Magic.
monthly or bust for me, i've only played allods f2p so far it was fun but i can never pay for the extra stuff, would never and i'd just quit second i felt i needed to like i did in allods. don't even think it would matter if it would only cost 15bucks a month in items i lol. my brain just triggers a noooo to f2p. it's like there anima system, it makes it feel like a punishment when u run out. and that is what having to buy shit does on a time to time basis. besides guild wars 2 will be f2p and by that i mean no cash shops or monthly i'd run to that till a real mmoRPG comes along.

im all for month fee

I'm happy with a monthly fee.
I would hapily pay $15/ month starting when the servers come back online. Game is entertaining enough for me as is, I safely assume it will become even better. Both DDO and LoTRO are unplayable to me after they went F2P.

I am an optimist, and I generally try to find the good in all things in life.
There is no good in free to play.
I feel I should admit though, that I did play Atlantica Online for about a year. If nothing else it was a unique experience to anything else out there, by a large margin. ~14 months, spent about $100USD total, not a bad deal. (coulda sold my gold for big profit at closing time actually, but gave it away)
