Also one thing to note on this game is if I stick something on the MB it means I don't want it anymore. I'm going to post it at a price I feel it will sell for. And if it's there too long I'll lower it until it gets to a point where it's too close to the vendoring price of dumping it on an NPC. The listings that make me shake my head are the people posting stuff so low I can buy it off the MB then vendor it at an NPC and make a profit.
I think this is because there are thousands of people like me who have, basically, infinite money and just by habit dump everything on the MB? Marketboard interaction is something new players do, or those who enjoy it. Nobody who has played any amount of time and invests the first 1-2 hours of each patch and expansion to making money has under, I dont know, 100 million? 200?Also one thing to note on this game is if I stick something on the MB it means I don't want it anymore. I know several in my FG, despite taking large breaks, sit at a comfortable 100 mill and simply dont care about gil.
As to the OP: You value ingame money, the other guy probably just wanted to get rid of his stuff quickly so he can use the freed up slot to dump something else. I dont think he was playing the same game as you here.
As much as I dislike the undercutters. Your post is not brought up very much when people complain about it. The game has poor itemization and inventory management. People accuse others of hording. But MB is tied to this system and in order for someone using the given inventory and MB space they can't afford to be passive with how they sell. They are one step away from vendoring it.
So if they keep it they are hoarders and if they price it too low to convert it to one of the few unlimited(almost) inventory spaces in the game (gil) they are foolish players that don't understand markets. The system is not equal for all players. I apy a few extra hundred dollars a year and can afford to sit on some things. This person can't.
You didn't "Lose" 100K gil. You never had it to begin with. Items are "worth" exactly whatever people are willing to pay.Yesterday i saw that neo-ishgardian rings were sold for 168k gil, so i crafted
2 pieces, but by the time i put them on market board, one seller had undercut the
price to 150k gil.
Thats a shame i thought but undercut his price anyway. his next undercut was 20k
gil, and then 10k. - By that time, i wanted him to realize what he was doing,
so i undercut him with 1gil on one ring and with 10k on the other ring.
Some hours went by and other sellers had lowered their prices also.
8 hours later he was gone and the prices were around 80k gil, and i checked the
price history and saw he had sold for 50k gil.
Then i raised my price back to 168k gil and went to bed.
- I mean, what is this kind of sorcery? If he had undercut that diligently
but instead with 1 or 10 or 100 gil he would have sold anyway and be 100k
richer.
Am i missing something or did he do very wrong?
They were willing to lower their price to sell their items sooner than anyone else. That's economics in unlimited supply.
Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
Honestly it sounds like the biggest problem is the "Screw you Got Mine" mentality. Can call it economics or whatever you like but that's it underneath all the rationalization.
You should buy it and manipulate the price on your own lol.
I remember myself buying out all the dispellers and then selling them for twice the price i was making about 700k a day.![]()

I'd rather sell 30 meerkats for 400k overnight to someone who wants to resell them (and did exactly that), than sit on them and sell one every 2 days for 500k in the 1 week before the market tanks them to 300k and i have to question if they're worth the space.
I also wish I had sold 5 more at 8 mil instead of holding them at 10mil until the market crashed to under 1m in less than a week after 5.3 hit.
Some markets arent worth playing the undercut by a few gil games.
If they arent selling well, lowering the price a miniscule amount of gil isnt going to magically make someone decide its finally in their price range.
If the last 20 prices for a_ring is 100k, and the board is trying to get 130k with 0 sales at that price, its not worth 130k, im going to sell it for something people will spend on it. Haggling over 10k on an item worth 10 times that is a great way to waste a lot of time.
for AH'ing, give me the GW2 system and call it good. Virtual markets need to be driven by both supply and demand, and nothing says "functional and efficient" like being able to buy from the lowest seller, sell to the highest buyer, or create buy or sell offers if those dont meet what you think its worth.

I can understand undercutting to a point...
I've seen people sell things at the same price as the sell-to-NPC price or lower and it just seems weird. :B
I sell every shiny thing (aka weapons that are legit shiny or have a neato effect when you unsheathe them) I know I won't ever use, at around 50k. Housing items? Also 50k (but only if they're one of those pricey, fancy pieces). Fancy clothes? 50k ... maybe. Minions? yep, they gotta be 50k too (again, taking rarity into account).
... Unless it's ingredients for CUL/ALC. I always sell stacks of those dirt cheap XD
