Continually getting error 6D when trying to start the game. (help appreciated)

Does this issue occur when Final Fantasy XIV is the only program running? Does the crash occur when the game is in windowed or borderless fullscreen mode?

this crash occurs when this is the only active program running, and i had it set to borderless fullscreen, however it will not launch for me to adjust the options, it crashes before it goes through to the main menu splash page.
