Adding to this, in the Storbmlood WAR had a scythe as a reward for Feast seasons. Isn't obtainable anymore, but still an option that technically exists in the game.In terms of a job that distinctly uses Scythes as a battle weapon there are currently none but there are some Scythes for battle jobs.
WAR, DRK, DRG, BLM, and WHM have access to the Mogstation-only Scythe weapons, the Blackbosom Reaper Collection.
BLM also both the normal and Augmemented version of the Deep shadow Scythe, while NIN has Byakko's Handscythes.
(There might be more but those are the ones I remember/could search quickly.)
No idea, but I sure wouldn't complain if we got more glamour scythes at least. Edda's is cool, but it's also kind of thin and flimsy looking... looks cooler as a melee weapon, but looks more like an actual weapon if you're using it as a staff. Otherwise it kinda leans close to looking like a toy weapon with some looks/lighting lol
I want a scythe with some weight to it.

I have to say that an optional glamor item isn't going to necessarily stop them from adding in a scythe wielding job. Consider that paladins got a gunblade optional glamor item back in ARR but now we have a whole job dedicated to them. No, that was just FFXI that added great scythes to the game in a patch (BLMs could use them too in that game), they've always used great swords since the earliest days of the Job (FFII). Really, the closest to scythe use in the game besides BTN is Edda's scythe on the Mogstation. Because of that, it's pretty clear SE will not be introducing a specific great scythe class I'm sorry to say.

Would rather see Hammers for one of the next jobs first if we're gonna make DoL/H tools into weapons. Plus There are less animation issues with hammers (or maybe I've just been spoiled by Early RWBY :P).
Its distinctly different from the way gunblade in this game and viii work though. It's a gun sword, and functions as both. Gunbladesare just swords.I have to say that an optional glamor item isn't going to necessarily stop them from adding in a scythe wielding job. Gunblades are not just swords, they do have bullets that they fire, or at least they do in this game. There's a whole section about that where Thancred can't charge his own ammo on the First since he's not entirely corporeal and has to have Minfilia do it for him. They DO fire, and they fire bullets making them more a hybrid between the two game's versions of the gunblade not just a copy of FFVIII.
The way Lightning uses hers does not change the fact that it IS a gunblade, and it's a gunblade that can be equipped by a job that is not gunbreaker. So my point stands, the fact that the blackbloosom weapons exist in the game does not negate the option of them adding a scythe wielding job into the game at a future date.

Small correction: Thancred's Aether has been screwed up since he traveled through the lifestream. So he can't use any magic at all. which is why Ryne has to charge his ammo. He's just like a Garlean without the third eye.
Pretty sure scythes have been a thing with DRK in FFXI since it launched. I know there was a specific weapon skill for scythe after rise of the zilart was added. But nonetheless dark knight was more of a DD in FFXI such a fun class in that game. No, that was just FFXI that added great scythes to the game in a patch (BLMs could use them too in that game), they've always used great swords since the earliest days of the Job (FFII). I do miss my war/nin blink tank back in those days.
