It's a bad basic spell for us CNJ... when it works, it hurts them badly. But most things seem to resist it...
What sort of critters resist Stone? And if they resist Stone, would that mean they're weaker to Aero?

Stone is nice.
The enemies that resist it are not nice.
Good thing we have Aero too!
I think they are opposites, so one of the two should be effective.
And not bad for a CNJ ^.^
They arent opposites. this games elemental wheel is all jacked up ...... WIND > FIRE > ICE > WIND and then WATER > STONE > LIGHTNING > WATER
If most things are resisting it, you may want to bump up your magic accuracy. At low levels, this means Bone Rings, which you can make yourself. Later on, CNJ weapons like the Elm Cane or Yew Crook and headgear like Silver Spectacles or, even later, various pointy hats also provide it. You could also look for Hell's Eye materia.
There are some mobs that are just generally going to take less damage from it due to their elemental affinity. When I was leveling THM, I'd occasionally get leves or behests that have gnats, which are lightning based. (THM's staple spell) I would put Stone on my bar and use it and it'd do nearly 3x the amount of damage that lightning would. Basically any mob I ran across that took lower than normal damage from lightning I'd use Stone and Blizzard on and they'd usually work pretty well.
The same goes for pretty much any spell. It might be easier to solo as CNJ or THM rather than their job counterparts so you have access to most of the elements. (Blizzard is the only one that won't carry over) That way if your main class spells aren't doing as much damage as they should, you can use the other class's.
Thanks, the advice about lightning especially. I keep lightning on my bar as either DoM, so I can just use it to test that weakness. It's too bad about Aero... a longer cast time because it causes a useless bleed effect...? That's just sad. Also sad is the fact that I won't learn Aerora until TWENTY levels after I learn Stonera.
I wish we had water magic!
Go find some Gnats and laugh as Stone takes away 90% of its health =P Wolves and Boars are also very weak to earth, but unfortunately all these are mid-level enemies.
Water-based and Earth-based enemies take less damage from Stone, so Aero should hit whatever resists Stone for neutral damage at worst. As was suggested, if the enemy takes less damage from Stone there's a good chance they are water based and weak to Thunder =)
Don't discount the possibility of you having low accuracy, though. If you're getting resists (as in, it says in the log you get resisted and you don't get the Combo prompt) then you have to get more magic accuracy like Robert Redensa suggested. If you're simply just doing less damage then you should switch elements.

I'm fine for accuracy, most of the time. I only see resists on critters that are strong to earth, really.
You're still 21... once you hit 50 you can see Stone is pretty damn good
