No in-game item after purchasing game

I've already written to support and called SE about this issue and it is clear that this is only a small issue of little importance. In the grand scheme of things and to SE. So I put in an account service and entered the code I had and due to the terribly inconvenient and non-user friendly account management screen, I can't tell if there's something else I have to do to activate it or not.

When I view my service accounts, it shows one for my character and one for the item I entered. They appear separate and there is no option to apply the item to the account you have... you know, like in EVERY OTHER game. So under basic account services, it has my character and the item, the only problem is that I don't have the item in my inventory, or anywhere that I can find.

Does anyone know how to get an item properly?

Update: *From SE support email* With all the in-game bonus items being provided for FINAL FANTASY XIV, any new character created after the reward code has been registered to your SQUARE ENIX Account will have the bonus item(s) in their inventory at the start of play. Characters created before the reward code was linked to your SQUARE ENIX Account will not be able to receive any bonus item(s).

F***ing fantastic, not to mention that when you buy the game, very little info besides a code is given in addition to your download instructions of "click here".

I guess I'll have to get another slot in order to see the item... oh wait, that costs extra money. Very sneaky SE, very sneaky.

I remember starting over to get the items. I noticed early so didn't loose too much.
