I know due to technical stand points its no something you can just pop in but will we ever get it? we got crossworld that is awsome but ive been playing ff14 since 1.0 now all my friends are starting to play and they picked a different data center and i cant help them have we gotten any news on this?

Iirc, this is something Yoshi-P has expressed a strong desire to do but is being held back by budget and time constraints.

I imagine they are chipping away at their technical debt and making incremental changes with the way the game works to eventually make this a thing. Maybe a few expansions from now.

It's been confirmed that they don't know how it could work right now, but would like to figure it out eventually, so probably going to happen some day, but definitely don't hold your breath for it.

I mean from what we know, all the NA datacenters seem to be housed in the same location if not the same server room. So at the very least it should be possible to do cross-datacenter play between datacenters that are housed in the same location some day. It's just a matter of figuring how it'd work and getting the funding to do it. As SE themselves is a bit... Well... Let's just say Yoshi-P had to beg for the funding for the last round of upgrades.

Yoshida mentioned that they want to make this possible, so the idea itself is in the state of progress. The main question at this point is whether it's doable at all and when.

From what we know, at least.

Yoshi-P mentioned in one of the last round of magazine interviews released last week that this is still a very hard task for them but they are still trying to figure that out. Will probably take quite a bit of time.

Cross server transfers have been amazing. Hard to remember now how it was before that. I would think since they want to they'll figure out a way to do it at some point.
