No, I get what you're saying, Stitch. But this problem is not going to get fixed in a reasonable time, because that time has passed. This is likely to be fixed on a Square Enix schedule. They already sent out an email announcing they will delay their next patch, citing coronavirus, so I would guess this obscure issue won't get fixed until then.

You're right, we don't "need" to reinstall our operating systems, because technically this is not our problem. However, if you want to play FFXIV without fear of game crashing (right now, and in the foreseeable future), this seems to be the only solution. A lighter version of this solution could be to create a new, standard Windows user, and see how that works, running FFXIV alone, without any other processes running in the background.

Before reinstalling, I tried that, but didn't stick with it because I still had other stuff to do. Then yesterday I went ahead and reinstalled everything for the big win. No crashing since.
