Be Wary of Phishing Attempts in Game

Been getting tells in game from hacked accounts, which are obvious phishing attempts. I know many players will not visit these links but as the tells look somewhat legit (and I haven't gotten one in forever), some players might be attempted to check them out. The link is disguised as an official lodestone forum
link. However, if you take a careful look at it, you can tell that it is obviously not an official SE lodestone link.

Remember the old saying, 'there's a sucker born every minute'? People still falling for those tells proves it true. Phishing emails, scam calls, if it reels people in and gets the cash, they will still keep doing it.

Strangely enough I've yet to get that sort of tell in-game.

I got one of those the other day as well. They make the link look like it is from an official SE source. but if you look carefully there is extra .blahblahblah after the squareenixstuff in the url.

ppl just need to be smart. There are no 750mill gil giveaways just like there is No rich relative over seas you never heard of giving you 20million dollars of their inheritance out of the blue.

These people....they also have had the gall to impersonate popular streamers claiming the streamer was going to quit streaming and giving away a bunch of gil. Make sure of both the source and the links given if you're trying to participate in a giveaway.

I honestly can't see any reason for anyone would fall for this trick.
I guess that is just me since there are people who believed 5G caused Covid 19.

If it helps anyone who is reading, Square Enix events are announced in the chat as system messages and not /tells.

I guess that is just me since there are people who believed 5G caused Covid 19.

As George Carlin said, "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realise half of them are stupider than that."

That said, sometimes all it takes is someone being in a a less than ideal mindset to actually buy into that sort of thing. My sister is in college to be a doctor but last year she very nearly sent money to one of those IRS scams because they caught her during a particularly bad finals week prep and she wasn't even remotely lucid due to all the studying she had just finished doing. It took only a second of being reminded to actually think through the situation - and to tell her to hang up on the guy because like a predatory scumbag he was doing his best to berate her over the phone - to actually get her to connect the dots. Here we really don't have that scammer screaming in our ear in a vulnerable moment, but I'd wager we've all been at a point in our lives where we've accidentally clicked or copied something we shouldn't have due to factors like utter exhaustion or the like. Though it's more understandable if it's a link on, say, twitch or youtube as opposed to a link you need to manually copy from the game.

As for the rest, some people really are just that gullible sadly.
