Materia needs to be stored in a separate tab, just like crystals. Seriously, wouldn't that be great?

I would have given anything to not have ever seen Raven again. I can never regain what has been lost by seeing that. You've ruined me!
They just made it stack and now your saying its not enough
i love it, it never fails for people to want more

That's a little rude.
I've just used materia for the first time and found that it blocked off my entire inventory because, as I discovered, it uses regular item slots. To store items takes about FIVE SECONDS per item to transfer to retainer. And then between two and three seconds to be able to pick the next item for storage. It takes just as long to sell items. So I think it's reasonable to ask for a separate inventory tab for materia because of the 20 or more I've just made, none of it stacked. One is MND +1, another MND +3, they're not going to stack.
I am in no way being greedy. If materia didn't originally have the ability to stack identical types together, that is seriously not something we should have had to ASK for. It's common sense that you'd be able to stack similar items. It's also not my fault that whenever I try to do anything in my inventory it's slow and cumbersome, as it has been since I started playing about eight months ago.
If we don't ask for these little improvements, how are the developers going to even know we'd like them?
The issue comes from experience and while seeing 99 stack may look like a big change, it really hasn't changed much.
I've been focusing mainly on body materializing as I gather since I"m hoping to obtain veil materia. The only way to obtain veil materia seems to be through shields or body armor, since I can get body armor for cheap I use it while gathering and break them apart as they bond. Now here is my current materia standing when breaking apart body armor:
Bloodthirst III 2 +44
Bloodthirst III 1 +47
Bloodthirst III 1 +40
Bloodthirst IV 1 +5
Manathirst II 2 +25
Manathirst III 1 +27
Manathirst III 2 +28
Lifethirst III 1 +22/14
Dexterity IV 1 +16
Fire Veil III 1 +8
Wind Veil III 1 +9
Wind Veil IV 1 +12
Wind Veil IV 1 +11
Lightning Veil III 1 +7
Under the current system I save 3 spaces but even then it's only 3 spaces, the idea behind stacking them was so we could save more spaces, which means they have to go about it in a different way.
The way materia should stack is like this. With this idea in mind I would propose to change materia from 99 to just 12 however it's interface would look different upon hovering over it. So instead of the above it would look like this -assuming all materia only has 4 variables-
Materia -- +40-- +42-- +44--+47--Quantity
Bloodthirst III---1-----0------2----1----4/12
---------------+26--+27----+28--+30--------
Manathirst III---------1------2---------3/12
---------------11-----12-----13--14-----
Wind Veil IV----1-------1------0---0---2/12
Bloodthirst IV 1
Manathirst II 2
Lifethirst III 1
Dexterity IV 1
Fire Veil III 1
Wind Veil III 1
Lightning Veil III 1
AT least rather then saving a measly 3 spaces I'd be saving 8 spaces. They've made an interface that allows you to see the materia you have on a piece of equipment so I don't see why they can't make an interface that allows you to pick the "Quality" of the grade of materia you have via the above example.
Basically click meld, then click on the materia you want to use, then you'll be shown another interface to choose which quality you want. It would add an additional window to melding but it would lift off a lot of stress from current inventory issues. If they truly have plans to reduce the amount of inventory space by the time 2.0 hits they definitely gotta figure out a way to fix materia so that it doesn't eat as much inventory as it does now.
A materia tab would have been the best way to fix this problem. None of my materia stacks either.
